Launch of the Step into Dance pilot
The Jack Petchey Foundation and the Royal Academy of Dance partner up to create an exciting new programme that provide extra-curricular classes to mainstream and SEN schools across four London boroughs: Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington. -
First Step into Dance LIVE!
The end-of-year event takes place at the Bloomsbury Theatre and gathers 100 students from 12 schools. -
Sue Goodman joins the team as Artistic Coordinator
Our own beloved Sue joins the team and pushes the programme further. -
Birth of Step into Dance
After a successful pilot year, Step into Dance is officially launched. The programme involves over 60 schools in eight different London boroughs. -
First Borough Events
The Borough Events (which will become Spring Sharings in 2016) are regional performance events where the dancers share their year's hard work with friends, families, VIPs and other schools. Nine Borough Events gathered 44 schools. -
Creation of the Dance Company: Gifted and Talented
After a series of auditions, 20 dancers on the programme are chosen to join the new dance company. The company rehearsed during the May half term and performed their piece at Step LIVE! 2010. -
Step LIVE! at Sadler's Wells
Step LIVE! is getting bigger and better and is held for the first time in the prestigious venue. It includes workshops, flashmobs and battles in the foyer and the main show in the Sadler's Wells theatre. -
First Watch This Step sessions
These workshops available to all dancers on the programme include specific work, improvisation, audience participation and aim for the participants to gain an insight into the creative process for making a piece of dance. -
Creation of the first Step into Battle
Three events around London celebrate the skills of the breakers and street dancers on the programme. The events come complete with DJ, host, judges and prizes. -
Launch of the Satellite Summer School
This one week course available to both mainstream and SEN pupils uses dance to improve the participants' confidence, artistic experience and team working skills. -
Gifted and Talented becomes the Youth Dance Company
The Gifted & Talented group is split up into two official Step into Dance Youth Companies: Street and Contemporary. -
Step into Dance goes on Tour
Step into Dance on Tour are extra one off workshops that give the opportunity for dancers on the programme to experience the art of physical theatre, parkour or Capoeira. -
Step LIVE! is held at the Southbank Centre
Step into Dance took over the Clore Ballroom at the Southbank Centre for a celebration of dance. The day included free workshops, battles and shows from over 20 schools on the programme. -
Creation of the Musical Theatre Company
The second Youth Dance Company focuses on a different vocabulary and working methodology. It will be renamed Jazz Company in September 2014. -
Step into Dance Together
This new initiative gathers two schools (either one SEN and mainstream or two mainstream schools) to share their dance practice. These sessions will be renamed Step Together in 2013. -
The Step into Dance companies run as three separate entities
The companies evolve to be three different styles: contemporary, street dance and musical theatre. -
Launch of the Step into Dance Ambassador scheme
Young people who show commitment and enthusiasm are nominated by their teachers or peers to represent Step into Dance at their school and events. -
New Step into Dance logos
The new logos have arrived and they're looking funky! -
Creation of the inclusive dance company
After a successful pilot project at Step LIVE! 2015, the fourth Youth Dance Company is created for dancers from SEN schools on the programme. -
Arts Awards
Step into Dance becomes an Arts Awards Supported and Registered Centre. Young people are now able to use their experience of participating in classes, projects and events towards completing their Arts Award. -
10 year anniversary celebration!
Step into Dance will celebrate its 10 year anniversary at Step LIVE! 2017 at the Southbank Centre. We look forward to seeing you there!
