    Andrew retired from the railroad in 1865, but four years earlier he had started investing in the oil industry. From his extaordinary profits he was then able to start his life of steel and iron.

    Taking a break from his work, Andrew married Louise Whitfield. They were introduced by a mutual friend and were married in the Whitfields' home. It was said to be a small ceremony.

    The steel industry was up and running, Carnegie had a few smaller mills. At the same time he was trying to run his mills, J.P. Morgan wanted to buy him out to make his company more powerful. Andrew combined all of the mills in his ownership. He wanted to also make his company more powerful. It was basically a power game. The result of the combination of his couple smaller mills was Carnegie Steel.
  • Homestead Strike

    Once again Andrew had traveled to Europe. While he was gone a strike broke out at the Homestead Mill. Andrew asked his close friend Henry Clay Frick to take care of the problems. He brought in Pinkerton agents. When that went awfully wrong the militia was brought in then followed by strike breakers so that the mill would be brought back to life.
  • U.S. Steel

    U.S. Steel
    J.P. Morgan finally got Andrew Carnegie to sell out to him. By combining all of the mills, he created United States Steel Corporation. Andrew already made his fortune with his great investing skills and wise money tactics. But this really gave him all of the money that he would need to live a very, VERY comfortable. $480 million to be exact.
