The fight between the North and South over slavery. Abraham Lincoln was the president at this time, and was making a big impact on the people. The north wins as the south was defeated. -
World War 1
This started when Archduke Francis Ferdinand was assassinated by a Serbian nationalist. This was was started because of countries signing to help each other and pulling themselves in. Imperialism and militarism and nationalism were all reasons for the beginning of this war. -
World War 2
This started because Hitler signed with countries and then invaded Poland about a week after signing with them. The U.S. was trying to stay out of it for the most part and then Pearl Harbor was bombed by Japan so we went to war. -
Jackie Robinson Joins MLB
Jackie Robinson was the first black person to sign with an MLB team. He signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was also named rookie of the year in 1947. -
JFK Dies
He was the 35th president and was assassinated at 12:30 p.m. His assassination was at Dealey Plaza, Dallas, Texas. He was in a parade riding in a convertible car. It is said that he was killed by Lee Harvey Oswald, who was said to be acting alone. Lee never was able to take trial because he was killed. -
Oklahoma City Bombing
This took place on a federal building in down town Oklahoma City. The bombing killed 168 people and injured over 680 more. The bomb damaged 324 buildings within a 16 block radius. There was around 652 million dollars of damage. There were 4 guys charged for being part of the bombing. -
Princess Diana Dies
She died in a car crash in a tunnel in Paris, France. They were driving a Mercedes Benz W140. The driver lost control of the car while being chases by the Paparazzi. He later was found to have alcohol in his system. -
Michael Jordan Retires for Second Time
Michael Jordan first retired to go play in the MLB. Some people say he was forced to leave because of drugs or gambling. He then came back and wore the number 45 and then retired on January 13th, 1999. -
9/11
It was an attack on the U.S. by Al Qaeda. They took four planes with four destinations in mind. One went into the north building and another one went into the south tower. One more hit the Pentagon. Another one was said to hit the White House but was taken down by the people on board. Over 2,000 people did in the attacks. -
Osama Bin Laden Death
He was head of the Islamist militant group, Al Qaeda. Seal Team Six invaded his compound at about 1 a.m. on May second. He was then shot and took to Afghanistan for identification. The news then was released. -
Boston Bombing
During the Boston Marathon two bombs went off near the finish line of the marathon. Three people were killed while 260 others were injured. This was said not to be a terrorist attack. -
Death of Freddie Gray
Freddie Gray, a 25 year old African American, died on April 19th in Baltimore. He was arrested for having an illegal switchblade on the 12th. When being transported he fell into a coma. It was said that six Baltimore police used unnecessary force and caused damage to his spinal cord.
