    *Roosevelt becomes President in 1901 after the assasination of President McKinley. Put the Square Deal in action in 1903. *Woodrow Wilson becomes President after beating Roosevelt in the 1912 election. He enforced many economic reforms such as The Underwood Tariff Act, and he passed the 16 Amendment.

    *World War I broke out in 1914.
    *The people fighting in the war was mainly Europe and Germany and later France, Russia, Great Britain, and the .U.S. joined in.
    *One of the main causes of the war was Nationalism, which means that a specific nation, language, or culture is superior to all others.
    *There were also Triple Alliances and Triple Entrences.
    *Austria-Hungary, Germany, and Italy were in a Triple Alliance, and Britain, France, and Russia were in a Triple Entrence.

    *After World War I ended, cultural standards and events exploded during the 20's.
    *Women rebelled and became Flappers who danced like crazy and wore shorter clothes and cut there hair.
    *Prohibition also came around, which banned alchol consumption and manufacturing. Because of this, many secret underground bars called Speak Easies popped up.
    *Music and art also became a big thing. Jazz music being insanley popular and landscape art became all the rage.

    *The Great Depression happened on October 29, 1929, otherwise known as Black Tuesday.
    * The stock numbers plumited and people rushed to the banks to retrieve there money but couldn't get t. Because of this people lost there jobs, lived in poverty and terrible conditions, sold there stuff, and many commited suicide.

    *Fads also caught on during the 20's. Fads were things of interest that many people follow for a short time. Some examples of fads were: mah-johng, self-improvment programs, pet rocks, flag pole sitting, crossword puzzles, minerature golf, and seeing how many people can fit in a phone booth.
    *World War II began in 1936 because Hitler wanted to take over all of Europe and murdered millions of Jewish people.

    *Many very famous books such as Little House On The Prarie were published during the GD.
    *Jazz or, swing music was very big, so performers such as Benny Goodman and Duke Ellington were huge.
    *Western films were the most made type of movie during the GD and helped people temporarily escape the dullness of the GD life.
