  • Santa Anna becomes president

    Santa Anna becomes president
Antonio de Santa Anna was more like a caudillo. He just kep failing like a failure: he wanted to make sure that Texas was still in Mexican ownership after Mexicans invited Americans to live in Texas, and follow Mexican rules so Mexicans invaded Texas. They lost. He was captured by Sam Houston after the war in Texas. He was exiled from Mexico for failing so badly. But then he came back, was exiled again, and then came back, but was blind and peasant. He was forgotten by then. He looks funny.
  • Texas is Annexed by the United States; Mexican-American War

Texas is Annexed by the United States; Mexican-American War
Texas was annexed by the US. The Mexicans declared war: the Mexican-American War....They lost....again. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was the treaty that stated the price the mexicans had to pay: the treaty gave the US all of Mexico's western states like Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. This picture is from Google Images.
  • Santa Anna is overthrown by Benito Juarez

Santa Anna is overthrown by Benito Juarez
Santa Anna came back for the Mexican American but they lost, so he was exiled again. When he came back, he was overthrown by a guy from a place with a funny name: Benito Juarez from Oaxaca. Thats a weird name for sure. So Juarez called his ideas "La Reforma" which included this:
    1. Minimum Wage - for every worker; protect
    2. Education - only a good thing
    3. Land Redistribution - makes for a better economy.
    Juarez was a good guy.
  • French Invade Mexico

    French Invade Mexico
Even though Juarez's ideas were great, it still wasn't really put into action. In fact, Mexico built up a large debt, continuously owing a lot of money to other countries. One of the main countries was French. Well, the french got tired of Mexico's debt, so Napoleon III put his cousin or something as emporer of Mexico: Achduke Maximillian. (He was pretty ugly). But, the French era ends in 1867
  • Juarez sets up La Reforma in Veracruz

Juarez sets up La Reforma in Veracruz
After the French went away, Juarez came back into power. He set up another La Reforma in Veracruz when he comes back to Mexico and is elected president and then re-elected president of Mexico. Fun-ness!
  • Santa Anna returns for the last time.

Santa Anna returns for the last time.
He came back, but he was blind, and a peasant, and he was almost forgotten. I only put in this one because it was on the list of the dates we had to put in this timeline that we created in class on Friday. All these pictures are from Google Images by the way!
  • Porifirio Diaz comes to power by force.

Porifirio Diaz comes to power by force.
THIS guy ran against Juarez BOTH times Juarez ran for president. After Juarez died, Diaz took over the rule of Mexico from its previous president by force. His idea of "order and progress" actually worked, which was good, but he didn't care for any working values or anything like that. He was a meanie who was really nice.
  • Diaz Steps down; Francisco Madero is elected president.

Diaz Steps down; Francisco Madero is elected president.
While Diaz was president, Madero ran for the job, but was arrested by Diaz. Later, when Diaz stepped down because he was doing such a bad job, he got assassinated by General Victoriano Huerta. But Madero was joined by Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata who were great leaders, but then Madero killed them. After Madero came General Victoriano Huerta (replaced Madero as president). HE was assassinated and Replaced by Venustiano Carranza. PHEW thats a mouthful!!
  • Venustiano Carranza comes to power

    Venustiano Carranza comes to power
THIS GUY came to power after Gerneral Victoriano Huerta was assassinated. He fought with Mexican Robin Hood (Pancho Villa) and Zapata to get Huerta out of power, but then turned on them. Traitor! 1919 he came to power, but was overthrown in 1920. He was a big worker and supporter of La Reforma. He revised the Constitution, but didn't support its final version. So (obviously), he was assassintated and replaced. He had a funny looking beard.
  • Alvaro Obregon comes to power

    Alvaro Obregon comes to power
He was a general of Carranza, but he overthrew him in 1920 and took over the power. He wasn't a dictator. He was a nice man (although he was mean to Carranza). He supported what the Constitution called for, mainly land reforms, and promoted education. His ideas united various regions and peoples of Mexico. But, like all the other dudes who ruled Mexico (who must not like its rulers because it keeps killing them all), this dude was assassinated, in 1928. Sigh
  • The PRI is the LAST one FINALLY

The PRI is the LAST one FINALLY
After Obregon was assassinated, the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) rose to power. It didn't allow opposition (wow, just said like "NO OPPOSITION"....that must have been fun), but it still gave Mexico peace and political stability for a long time. The End!
