Prohibition
The 18th Ammendment which was the prohibition ammendment went in to effect on January 16th which made the sale of alcohol illegal. -
Sacco & Vanszetti
Sacco & Vanszetti were charged with executing a robbery and murder in exchange for money. They were eventually senteced to death. -
19th Ammendment
This ammendment guranteed all women the right to vote. -
Radio Broadcasting
The first radio station was KDKA in Pittsburg Pennsylvania. They aired reports about the presidential election. -
"The Battle of the Century"
On this day American boxer Jack Dempsey fought Frenchman Georges Carpentier in New Jersey. Dempsey was the American heavy weight champ at the time and Carpentier was the European champion. Dempsey was declared champion in the fourth round after knocking out Carpentier. -
Monkey Trial
On this day a teacher from Dayton, Tennessee named John T. Scopes went to trial for teaching evolution over creationism in a public school. Just a few months before the Butler Act made it illegal to teach evolution in public schools in Tennessee school. Scopes was found guilty. -
Charles Lindbergh
Chrles Lindbergh was the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. He started in New York City and landed in Paris. The trip took 33 1/2 hours to complete. -
Steamboat Willie
Steamboat Willie was created by Walt Disney and was the first animated sound film of the 1920's. This film introduce Mickey Mouse to the American people. -
Stock Market
This day is known as Black Thursday because it is the day that the stock market began to fall. -

This day in history is known as Black Tuesday . More than 16 million shares were sold, but by the end of the day most stocks ended below their value and most were stocks became totally worthless. Because of this some people became homeless and penniless.
