    Prohibited manufacturing, selling, or transportating intoxicated liquors.
  • Volstead Act

    established a Prohibition Bureau in the Treasury Department. It turned out the agency was underfunded.
  • Palmer Raids

    Anti-Communist panic that swept the nation. U.S. Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer and president Herbert Hoover hunted down suspected communists, socialists and anarchists.
  • Red Scare

    (mostly) Bolsheviks waved a flag symbolizing their communism. They sent the government bombbs and abolished slavery everywhere.
  • 19th Amendment Ratified

    This Amendment gave woman the right to vote. Enforced on August 18, 1920.
  • Charles Lindbergh Crosses the Atlantic

    Nade the first trans-Atlantic flight in the "Spirit of St. Louis"
  • Teapot Dome Affair

    Secretary of the Interior Albert B. Fall's secret leasing of oil-rich public land to private companies in return for money and land.
  • National Origins Act

    Established immigration quotas that discriminated people from outside western Europe. This Act set a quota of about 150,000 people.
  • Scopes Trial

    Tennessee passed a law making evolution, illegal to teach. John T. Scpes fought this law/
  • 1st Talking movie, The Jazz Singer is released

    The Jazz Singer is the first movie with sound. The first animated movie with sound is Walt Disney's Steamboat Willie.
  • Herbert Hoover elected president

    Favored government policies that would keep taxes down and business profits up. Elected in 1928 and blamed for the Great Depression.
  • Stock Market Crash

    16.4 million dollars was lost in the stock market. Now the folks that had stock were in huge debts.
