Mike Ditka was born in Carnegie, Pennsylvania on October 18, 1939.

Mike Ditka was drafted by the Bears in 1961 and played with them until 1966 as a tight end. In his first season he had 58 receptions, won rookie of the year, and later in his career he played on the 1963 NFL championship team.

After his time with the Bears he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles where he played for two seasons.

After his two seasons with the Eagles he then played for the Dallas Cowboys in 1969 for four seasons until 1972.

After his seasons with the cowboys Mike Ditka retired, but his involvement in football didn't end there.

As soon as he retired head coach for the cowboys, Tom landry hired Mike as the assistant coach. Mike Ditka stayed with them for nine seasons and helped with a super bowl victory in 1977.

In 1982 George Halas, founder of the Bears hired Mike as the coach and he stayed with the Bears until 1992.

During half time in one of Mike Dika's games he punched a locker because he was mad and ended up breaking his wrist.

In 1987 Mike Ditka threw a piece of gum at a San Francisco 49s fan because the fan threw a drink at him and yelled at him during a monday night match up.

In 1988 Mike Ditka was honered by being the first tight end to enter the hall of fame. He was also ranked number 90 out of 100 by the sporting news.

In his season in 1988 Mike Ditka suffered a heart attack. He was expected not to return to coaching, but returned a week later suprisingly.

In 1997 Mike Ditka begins tocoach the New Orlean's Saints.He coached for three seasons until 1999 and then was fired along with the assistant coach, Bill Kuharich.
