My Dad read to me my first, and favorite, children's book. I enjoyed repeating the verse, "Dum ditty Dum ditty Dum Dum Dum" from it.

I learned to read in Kindergarten. I was not taught the traditional method of phonetics. My teachers taught me to read by word recognition and pictures. My father was surprised that I learned to read, initially he thought I was memorizing the books.

My first chapter book was, "Mr. Popper's Penguins". We read it together in class in second grade.

I took my first county assessment for Language Arts. It was a "Reading to perform a task" assessment. We had to read the directions, and build a covered wagon out of construction paper. We then had to answer questions about the assignment.

I had some textbooks in elementary school, but I didn't begin reading my textbooks until middle school.

I borrowed and read the first three Harry Potter books from my reading teacher in sixth grade. It was the first series I really enjoyed, and I think it is what started my love of reading.

I read my first Shakespeare play in eighth grade. We read "Romeo and Juliet". I did not enjoy reading it very much. I read some of Shakespeare's other plays in high school, and I enjoyed them much more.

For my job, I sometimes have to read professional standards. (i.e. Yellow book audit guide, Internal Revenue Code, etc.) (I am an accountant).

I bought and read a book on my Kindle for the first time. It was the first time I read a digital book.
