  • Initial diagnosis of dyslexia and ADHD

    In 2003, I was tested and diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).
  • Re-evaluation on dyslexia and ADHD

    In 2nd grade, my parents wanted to have me re-evaluated for my dyslexia and ADHD. The evaluator concluded that the diagnosis still stood and suggested that I should have accommodations for reading and writing (504 plan).
  • 504 Plan

    In February 2004, I was given a 504 plan to help me accomplish my school work, particularly in reading and writing.
  • Started reading Harry Potter

    Around 5th grade, I started to read the Harry Potter series. This was a significant step because my brother had been reading them and had previously asked if I wanted to read them but I always said they were too big for me to read.
  • Began Writing Stories for Fun

    Around the beginning of middle school, I began to write stories in notebooks just for myself because I started to enjoy writing.
  • Joined first creative writing club

    In 7th grade, I joined a creative writing club.
  • Stopped needing portions of 504 plan

    When I started high school, I no longer required using the extra time portion of my 504 plan when completing writing assignments like essays or tests.
  • Scored 570 on reading portion of SAT

    Since reading had been a difficult subject for me growing up, a 570 on the SAT reading portion was a decent score for me.
