    Columbus Discovers America

    By persuading the king and queen of Spain to give him transportation, Columbus sailed west, trying to find a shorter route to Asia. Instead of finding Asia, Columbus came across a set of islands, which he mistook as India. This later caused the Europeans to come try to settle in the America's.

    King Henry VIII breaks away from the Catholic Church

    King Henry VIII broke away from the Catholic Church, creating the Church of England. This caused the Puritans to feel the need to reform the church. Later the Puritans felt that it would be better to move than to stay in England.

    The Salutary Neglect

    The Salutary Neglect occurs for the 1600's to the 1700's. During this time, the colonists developed their own government because England failed to give them any attention. When England tried to regain control, the colonists became angry and revolted.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763 was meant to keep colonists from settling to the west. The colonists ignored this because of the fact that they were not consulted in the matter. This was one of the events that led to the Revolutionary War.

    The Boston Massacre was an event that happened when a guard, later with other guards, was subjected to verbal abuse. The guard fired into the crowd to disperse them. They instead killed three men and wounded two others, who died later from their wounds. This greatly angered the colonists. This was one of the events that led to the Revolutionary War.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party is where colonists dumped tea into the Boston Harbor. This was caused because Parliament failed to consult the colonists with the taxation of tea. The colonists felt that Parliament should consult them in the colonist’s best interest.

    The Intolerable Acts stripped away Massachusetts self-government. After having self-government for so long, the colonists took the Acts in a negative way.

    The Articles of Confederation was a set of rules for the colonists to follow. This led to the Constitution, for the Articles were weak. The Articles wasn't straight-forward. It was questionable and too wordy causing it to be weak.
  • Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris was signed September 3rd, officially ending the American Revolution. This meant that the British had lost and acknowledged their defeat. That is the day the colonists became truely free.
