Emancipation Proclamation
The Emancipation Proclamation was signed by Abraham Lincoln in 1863. This proclamation ordered 3 million slaves to be freed in certain areas of the United States. -
13th Amendment
This Amendment was added to the Constitution in 1865. It claimed that slavery was illegal unless it was a form of a punishment for a crime that was committed. This amendment was proposed after fears that the Emancipation Proclamation did not cover certain areas in the issue of slavery. -
Association of American Universities
This association was founded in a conference at University of Chicago. It was to help advance and promote the research in universities. This was to help keep up with the education in the European countries and help increase the education of students in undergraduate and graduate programs. -
Brown vs Board of Education Topeka
This ruling ended the segregation between white and black students in the education system. According to this case it stated that segregation was unconstitutional in schools and that there should be equality. This case helped bring equality and culture into education. -

The Cuban revolution brought many Cuban immigrants to the United States. To help increase the education and cater to the immigrants, Coral Way Elementary School became the first school to be bilingual and bicultured. This helped increase the amount of bicultured schools in the US. -

The Civil Rights Act outlawed discrimination in race, color, religion and gender. This legislation was a significant part in the path to equality in the US. -
Indian Education Act
This Act helped with adding more to the education system that helped to the needs of Native American students. It was a comprehensive approach that assessed the needs of these children in learning. This also led to the no child left behind Act later on. -
Improving America's Schools Act of 1994
This Act was to improve the education system in America signed by Bill Clinton. This Act is to improve the comprehensive learning and techniques for immigrant students. This is to allow flexibility in learning of students and to train educators in the standards of teaching. -
Minorities Outnumber
In the year of 2014, minority students out number Cacausian students in the education system. This is a milestone due to the lack of diversity in K-8 schools throughout the years.
