  • Stamp Act of 1765

    The Stamp Act of 1765 helped British troops placed in the colonies during the Seven Year War.
  • The Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts included the Boston Port Act, the Administration of Justice Act, the Massachusetts Government Act, the Quartering Act, and the Quebec Act.
  • The Declaration of Independence

    Established by Thomas Jefferson, this document declared the United States an independent nation.
  • The British Surrender at Yorktown

    Most of the fighting took place during 1776-1783. This was the turning point for Americans during the Revolutionary War.
  • The Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris was eventually established and ended the American Revolution in 1783.
  • The Articles of Confederation

    (1781-1787) The Articles of Confederation set up a central government with 1 house legislature. Every state had just one vote. Stronger, independent state governments were formed during this time.
  • The U.S. Constitution

    Since many people were unhappy with the weakness of the newly formed governments, the U.S. Constitution was put into effect. The Constitution helped make a stronger government and allowed some power to stay with the states. The Constitution established the Three Branch System, consisting of the Legislative, Judicial, and Executive branches.
  • The Bill of Rights

    The Bill of Rights consisted of the first 10 amendments. These included:
    1. Freedom of religion, speech, and the press
    2. Right to bear arms
    3. No quartering of soldiers in private homes
    4. Protection from unreasonable search and seizure
    5. Double jeopardy
    6. Speedy trial by jury
    7. Lawsuits of $20 or more the right of the jury is preserved
    8. Cruel and unusual punishment will not be necessary
    9. Constitutional law cannot be used to deny others their rights
    10. Constitution is subject to change.
