When the position for zoo director became open, Jan and Antonina took the offer hoping to shape a new zoo and spend the rest of their lives with animals. -
In 1931, the couple got married and moved to Praga. -
Baby Rys is born. -
Hitler comes to power. -
The zoo is bombed and most of the animals are lost in the bombing. -
Lutz Heck convinces them to move the animals to Berlin on a loan until the war is over. This would keep the rest of the animals safe. They move and the zoo is closed. -
Jan and Antonina are forced to leave the zoo, and Jan has to join the Polish forces. -
Germans use the zoo as a pig farm to feed the Nazis. -
The Germans that were in Poland were ordered to kill without mercy all people that had Polish descent or an accent. -
Jews are starting to be allowed to hide in the zoo. -
Jews in Warsaw were forced to leave their homes and relocate. -
Jan and Antonina were on their way to Wanda's farewell party when they were caught in a bomb explosion. Wanda disappeared into the zoo in a disguise as Rys tutor. -
The pig farm has to be shut down because of the winter. -
Jan gets access to the ghetto. -
Jan escapes the ghetto with Lonia.
