  • Animal sent into space

    Animal sent into space
Animals were first sent into space to test the survivalbiltiy of space enviroment. Many animals died while in space however. The first animals sent into space were fruit flies aboard a U.S.-launched V2 rocket on February 20, 1947. The purpose of the experiment was to explore the effects of radiation exposure at high altitudes. The rocket reached a height of 68 miles vertically before plummeting to the ground.
  • Sputnik was launched

    Sputnik was launched
Sputnik was launched by the Soviet Union. The signals continued for 22 days until the transmitter batteries ran out on 26 October 1957. Sputnik 1 burned up on 4 January 1958, as it fell from orbit upon reentering Earth's atmosphere, after travelling about 60 million km (37 million miles) and spending 3 months in orbit.
  • Spuntnik two launched

    Spuntnik two launched
Sputnik 2 was the 2nd spacecraft aunched to orbit Earth. Like sputnik I, Sputnik II was also launched by the Sovie Union.
  • NASA was created.

    NASA was created.
NASA was officialy established on October 1, 1958. U.S. space exploration efforts have since been led by NASA, including the Apollo moon-landing missions, the Skylab space station, and later the Space Shuttle. Currently, NASA is supporting the International Space Station and is overseeing the development of the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and Commercial Crew vehicles.
  • Project Gemini

    Project Gemini
US introduced Project Gemini, a two-crew-member spacecraft that would support Apollo by developing the key spaceflight technologies of space rendezvous and docking of two craft, flight durations of sufficient length to simulate going to the Moon and back, Extra-vehicular Activity for extended periods, and accomplishing useful work rather than just "walking in space." Thanks to the project, the U.S. was able to catch up with the Soviets in the space Race.
  • Saturn rocket lift off.

    Saturn rocket lift off.
The Saturn family of American rocket boosters was developed by a team of mostly German rocket scientists led by Wernher von Braun to launch heavy payloads to Earth orbit and beyond. These satelites were originallly used for military purposes.
  • Apollo mission explodes

    Apollo mission explodes
In the United States, the first Apollo mission crew, Command Pilot "Gus" Grissom, Senior Pilot Ed White, and Pilot Roger Chaffee, were killed by suffocation in a cabin fire that swept through their Apollo 1 spacecraft during a ground test on 27 January 1967. The fire was probably caused by an electrical spark, and it grew out-of-control, fed by the spacecraft's pure oxygen atmosphere maintained at greater-than-normal atmospheric pressure. This happened on an Apollo Mission
  • Neil Armstrong was on the moon

Neil Armstrong was on the moon
Neil Armstrong was the commander of the mission Apollo 11. Armstrong's second and last spaceflight was as mission commander of the Apollo 11 moon landing mission on July 20, 1969. On this mission, Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin descended to the lunar surface and spent 2½ hours exploring while Michael Collins remained in orbit in the Command Module. Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon.
  • Discovery shuttle first touchdown

    Discovery shuttle first touchdown
Space Shuttle Discovery (Orbiter Vehicle Designation: OV-103) is one of the retired orbiters of the Space Shuttle program of NASA, the space agency of the United States,[4] and was operational from its maiden flight, STS-41-D on August 30, 1984.

  • International Space Station was created

    International Space Station was created
The Inetrnational Space Station was a result of the Soviet/Russian Mir-2, the American Freedom, and the European Columbus, merged into a single multi-national programme. The ISS consists of pressurised modules, external trusses, solar arrays and other elements. ISS components have been launched by American Space Shuttles as well as Russian Proton and Soyuz rockets. The ISS is bigger than any station on Earrth
  • Columbia shuttle destruction.

Columbia was a shuttle that completed 27 missions bfore xploding on re-entry of earth. All the 7 members aboard were killed in the explosion.
  • NASA's MER( Mars exploration rover mission)

NASA's MER( Mars exploration rover mission)
Spirit and Opportunity, exploring the planet Mars. It began in 2003 with the sending of the two rovers—MER-A Spirit and MER-B Opportunity—to explore the Martian surface and geology. The mission's scientific objective was to search for and characterize a wide range of rocks and soils that hold clues to past water activity on Mars. The mission is part of NASA's Mars Exploration Program, which includes three previous successful landers the two Viking program landers in 1976 and Mars Pathfinder(WIKI)
