French premier, Paul Reynaud asked President Roosevelt for aid or any type of help because Germany was entering. In response, the U.S. would not make any aid public in fear of Hitler's reaction. Canadian troops offered hope to the french once they've entered. -
Germany bombs London
German bombers attack London with 57 consecutive days of bombing. This bombing was named the "Blitzkrieg." (Bombing War). Military supplies such as tanks and planes were used. -
Lend Lease
U.S. military provided aid to foreign nations during WWll. The president would send arms or any other war materials needed. This allowed the U.S. to help other countries without actually entering battle. -
Germany Invades the Soviet Union
Adolf Hitler leads his soldiers to the Soviet Union. His plan was to invade territory from the North Cape to the Black Sea. The Russians had advantages because they were on home territory and the cold weather conditions. The Germans were not prepared for Russia's winter and struggled to maintain themselves in good condition to continue to fight. -
Japan bombs Pearl Harbor
Japanese air crafts unexpectedly bombed U.S. naval ships and American airplanes on this early morning. About 2,400 were killed (sailors, soldiers, and civilians) and about 1,000 were wounded. The Pearl Harbor attack leads the United States of America to enter WWll. -
United States declares war on Germany & Japan
Just 4 days after Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, The U.S. declares war on Germany because Japan and Germany were each others allies. The U.S. navy attacked German U-boats. President Roosevelt was ready for whatever came his way. -
Victory over Japan in the Battle of MIdway
The Battle of Midway occurred 6 months after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. The Japanese thought the Americans were not prepared for this battle, but naval ships came at them strong and defeated Japan. This left them surprised as Americans rode to victory. -
D-Day
The beginning of liberation of Western Europe. American, British, and Canadian forces landed beaches on the coast of France. The Allies defeated the Germans which means Hitler wouldn't be able to build up his forts in France as he planned. -
The end of World War 2
The United States drops the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima. 90% of the population was wiped out and 80,000 people were killed by the explosion. The second bomb dropped in Nagasaki and caused about another 40,000 people to die. This forced Japan to surrender and was the end of World War 2.
