  • Invasion of Manchuria

    On May 18, 1931, the Japanese invade Manchuria. This was the first invasion of China from the Japan. This led to concern from nations such as France, Britain and USA.
  • China Falls to Japan

    After the Invasion of Manchuria the Japan were pushing for more and trying to completely take China. This aggressiveness from the Japanese got the USA involved and the Chinese and Americans became allies during the war in the pacific. But the capturing of China led to Japan going for more islands and even made the US disband from the Philippines.
  • Blitzkrieg Into Poland

    The Germans has taken over Austria, and Czechoslovakia. There next target is Poland.The allies tell Poland they will support them but Germany and Russia sign the Non-Aggression treaty which states that both will attack Poland and then will split the land. On September 1st 1939, Germany rolls into Poland with fast moving troops with support in the air, also known as Blitzkrieg and over take Poland with Russia help from the east.
  • Battle of the Atlantic

    Was fought in 1939 between the US and Germany. Was a naval fight between the two in the Atlantic. The US eventually broke through and was easily able to pick apart Germany and the axis powers
  • Dunkirk

    Dunkirk took place when the Germans tried to Blitze into France. There was about 340,000 British soldiers on the beach. While France was being invaded the Germans drove a wedge between the British and French and everyone on Dunkirk had to be evacuated if not the British would have taken a hard hit to their Military and would be an easy target for Germany to hit next. Luckily the British were able to get off the French beach and make it back to Britain.
  • German Invasion Of France

    The Germans have already captured Holland, Belgium, Luxemburg and more and there next target is France. They Blitze into France and even with help from the British the French surrender to the Germans on June 22, 1940.
  • Battle of Britain/ The Blitz

    After making the French surrender and capturing most of Europe, the one place left to capture is Britain. In July 1940 the Germans begin to Bomb British airfields, key ports and military bases. Winston Churchill Britain's prime minister helped to keep the people spirits up during all of this. The British air Force holds off the Germans air force, because of better pilots and planes, also they had radar systems. By Spring 1941, Hitler gives up on the invasion (temporarily).
  • Germany take Greece

    In Spring of 1940 Germany with the help of Italy capture Greece. Greece was British territory at the time but the Germans were easily able to capture it after they had done so much damage to the main cities in Britain. After their success in Greece they go and start attacking North Africa, but in June the Germans back stab Russia and invaded Russian territory.
  • Operation Barbarossa

    On June 22, 1941, the Germans invaded their allies Russia. The invasion was known as operation Barbarossa. The Germans and Russians had a peace pact treaty in which they both took over Poland, but during this operation Germany stabbed their allies Russia in the back.
  • Pearl Harbor

    In 1941 the US breaks a Japanese code and we find out that the Japanese plan to attack an American territory. On December 7, 1941, 360 Japanese planes attack Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. We lose 19 ships, 150 planes, and 2400 soldiers from the attack. Fortunately for the US we had no aircraft carriers which are the most important ships in our navy. This event led to congress officially declaring war on Japan.
  • Operation Torch

    On Jan. 1 1942, FDR, Winston Churchill, and Stalin all meetup to discuss a plan to have an impact on this war. They came up with operation Torch which was a plan to move from Africa to Sicily and then to Italy. This would create a second front in the War. We began the operation by invading Algeria and the moving East. In the end of the operation we had captured 300,000 German troops, and we ended Germany's ability to fight offensively on the eastern front.
  • New Guinea-

    Towards the beginning of the War when Japan started capturing small islands near them and Australia they captured New Guinea. New Guinea was actually owned by Australia so they were being attacked. The US saw this and became allies with the Australians and they both helped each other in the attempt to take back the Pacific from the Japanese.
  • Doolittle Raid

    Specially modified US planes bombed Tokyo on April 8, 1942. They did very little damage, but good for US Morale.
  • Bataan

    On April 9, 1942, the Japanese took all the American troops in that fought in the small battle on the Philippines were forced to march 70 miles to prison camps. They had walk through jungles and such while randomly getting beaten by Japanese soldiers. The camps were very brutal as well many soldiers starved and disease spread.
  • Coral Sea

    The Battle of the Coral Sea was the first naval battle fought in the air. The Japanese wanted to cut off shipping lanes between the US, and Australia, but after 2 days the US was victorious and forced the Japanese to retreat.
  • Philippines 1942

    In 1942 the Philippines got invaded by Japan. The Philippines before the invasion was apart of the US but the US decided to become independent from them, but left soldiers on the island because we were still allies. A few months after this decision was made by the US the Philippines got invaded by Japan on December 8, and the battle lasted until April where the Philippines surrendered to Japan and was now considered Japanese territory.
  • Midway

    On June 4, 1942 the Battle of Midway took place. US code breakers found out about the Japanese goals of capturing Midway, and later Hawaii, and prepare to defend Midway with Admiral Chester Nimitz. It was a 4 day Battle with heavy losses for the US but even heavier losses for the Japanese. Japan lost 275 planes, and 4 aircraft carries. This was a major turning point in the Pacific because Japan loses it’s ability to fight an offensive war on the US.
  • Guadalcanal

    Small battles that took around 6 months until we control small Islands near Japan. We learn how to fight in jungles because of this and learn Navajo. This helps us set up for our next targeted attack in the Philippines.
  • Operation Torch

    On November 8, 1942, the US and British had came up with Operation Torch. Germany had recently invaded africa to get oil, but Gen. Eisenhower used great strategy to trap Rommel the German general. By may 1943, the Allies controlled North Africa.
  • StalinGrad

    On February 2, 1943, deadly street fighting breaks out in the rubble of a big city. It was a fight between the Russians and Germany over southern Russia. The Russians pull out the victory over the Germans.
  • Sicily

    The Axis powers had already captured North Africa and in operation husky there next move was to capture Sicily. The US and axis were successful and they were easily able to capture Sicily. This capturing led to the Italian people turning on Mussolini because they didn’t like his way of government and ended up hanging Mussolini publicly.
  • Kursk

    Kursk was another battle between the Germans and the Soviet. The battle turned out to be a famous tank battle and the results of it was that the Soviets captured 300,000 Germans, and ended Germans ability to fight offensively on the Eastern Front.
  • Salerno

    Salerno was the allied powers next destination after capturing Sicily. This win helped the allies to keep moving through Italy.
  • Gilbert and Marshall islands

    During November 1943 through February 1944, there was a series of battles fought in the sea between the US and Japan. It was apart of the Battles for the pacific, and these battles led up to the battles of Midway and such.
  • Anzio

    Was the Final battle between the Allied powers and Italy. The allied had already moved through Sicily and Salerno and they have now captured Rome. This final battle was the fall of the Italians in WW2.
  • D-Day

    June 6, 1944 there was 60 miles of beaches and the allied powers attack Normandy. The Germans were caught off guard and the Allied took over the beach. But we lost 60% of our soldiers. This win caused made a second front in the war.
  • Guam

    The Second battle of Guam was where the US retook Guam in the summer of 1944. The Japanese captured the island from the US in 1941 and 3 years later have recaptured it and demolished Japan in the process.
  • Operation Dragoon

    Operation Dragoon was a secret code name for the allied invasion of southern France. After the Germans took over France there has always been an underground service and military who have been in touch with the Allied Powers so during this operation they helped the Allied get there country back.
  • Philippines 1944-45

    Earlier in the War the Japanese took over the Philippines, which was ran by the US. The US was beaten easily, but this time a few years later the US came back and easily regained the land they lost and it gave the nation confidence that they were able to fight back and win the land they had once lost.
  • Battle of Leyte Gulf

    In October 1944, Admn. Nimitz and MacArthur converge on Islands. The Japanese meet them in the Gulf. It turned out to be the largest naval battle in history. The US ends up trapping the Japanese in a straight and pounds them. This had the first appearance of Kamikaze planes. The result of the war, was that the US retook the Philippines in February, and we almost completely destroy the Japanese navy.
  • Bastogne

    After the allied Powers attacked Southern France there next stop was Bastogne. It had the famous battle of The battle of the bulge take place in the city.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    Took place in Bastogne. It was a last major German offensive attempt. German tried to split the Allied Powers but it failed and both armies trapped the Germans and made a bulge in the battle field from the war.
  • Yalta Conference

    World War II is winding down and in February 1945, the Big three all meet up for a meeting known as the Yalta Conference. At the conference the Big three agreed that they want Germany to unconditionally surrender, and also talked about post time war.
  • Iwo Jima

    Iwo Jima was a battle between the US and Japan in the Pacific over the small island of Iwo Jima. The US was able to capture the island after a little over a month and the battle ended March 26, 1945.
  • Okinawa

    This was the bloodiest battle in the pacific between the US and Japan. It was the last major battle between the two sides, and around 240,000 people died in the battle.
  • Hitler's Suicide

    The War was coming to an end and the US and russian troops were capturing German troops. Hitler did not want to be captured so he, his girlfriend and his dog all committed suicide on April 30, 1945.
  • German Surrender

    Many German troops where surrender in droves. Hitler had killed himself and Germany agrees unconditionally surrender on May 8, also known as V.E Day. The War in Europe is know over and it’s time to end the Pacific.
  • Potsdam

    The Big 3 met on July 17, 1945 in Potsdam Germany to negotiate terms to end the War. Russia wanted some of Germany but the US didn’t want to give them too much power and land so we negotiated to giving them a small part of Germany.
  • Hiroshima and Nagasaki

    There was really nothing left of the Japanese and the US began bombing small cities and military areas. The Japanese still don’t surrender and the US tells Japan “Unconditional Surrender or face prompt and utter destruction”. The Japanese ignore the US so the US on August 6, at 8:15 am bomb Hiroshima. 80% of city destroyed, and 68,000 people die instantly and thousands die later. On August 9, the second A-bomb is dropped in Nagasaki. 35,000 die instantly, and thousands more later.
  • Japanese Surrender

    August 15, 1945, the Japanese unconditionally surrender to the US. On September 2, 1945 The peace treaty between the US and Japan is signed aboard the USS Missouri.
