The Blitz was the period when Hitler had his Luftwaffe bomb Brittan continuously. The German airplane bombing strategy was to go offense and bomb Britain. British people were forced to hide under railways and subway stations. Hitler believed that bombing the civilians would force the British to surrender. This ended when the RAF saw it as ineffictive and stopped.

The Japanese were heavilly garrisoned at home, so the way that the U.S. saw to get out of the upcoming battle was to drop the little boy bom, made of Uranium. After Japan would not surrender, they dropped it.

Nagasaki was bombed when, after the little boy bomb was dropped, Japan still refused to surrender. An atomic bomb called "fat man" was dropped on Nagisaki to further push Japan toward surrendering, it worked.
