It was used because, Germany had so much power it could easily dominate a nation by just sending throwing everything they had their way.     Operation Barbarossa was the codename for the German invasion on the Soviet Union. Hitler aimed to repeat the success of the blitzkrieg strategy in Western Europe and win a quick victory over the large nation he viewed as their sworn enemy.     Pearl Harbor

    The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise aerial attack launched by the Japanese on the U.S. naval base Pearl Harbor, located on the Hawaiian island Oahu. The attacked happened because the U.S. was trying to stop Japan's global expansions. This attack would lead to the U.S. declaring war on Japan.     Wannsee Conference

    The Wannsee Conference was a meeting to discuss the final solution of what to do with the Jews. Hitler disliked Jews and wanted the German citizen to see them as inferiors and that they were the modern day enemies.     Battle of Midway

    The Battle of Midway was a war conflict between the U.S. Navy and the Japanese Navy. The battle played out six months after the Japan had attacked Pearl Harbor. One of Japan's goals was to defeat the US's Pacific fleet and gain territory.     The bombing of Hamburg was a series of attacks on civilians and civic infrastructure. Hamburg was selected as the target because it was considered particularly susceptible to attack with incendiaries, which, from the experience of the Blitz, were felt to inflict more damage than just high explosive bombs. As a result more than 37,000 German civilians lost their lives.

    D-Day or Operation Overlord was the allies assault on the beaches of Normandy, France. France had been recently captured by Hitler's German forces during the fall of France. The allies (US, Britain, Canada) stormed some 50-mile cross beaches on the coast of Normandy, France, in an effort to reclaim France.     Battle of the Bulge

    The Battle of the Bulge was a surprise attack launched by German forces in the regions of Belgium, Luxembourg, and France. After the allies had taken over France they started to work their way into Belgium which at the time Germany had control over. In an effort to push the allies back the Germans launched a surprise attack.     On January 27,1945, millions of Jews were set free from concentration camps. Hitler saw the Jewish people as inferior and thought they they should do something with them. Concentration camps were the names of places that held Jewish people and either killed or tutored them.     Battle of Iwo Jima

    The Battle of Iwo Jima was an amphibious war conflict between the U.S. and the Empire of Japan. The island of Iwo Jima was one of Japan's air bases. So capturing the island meant that the U.S. could launch bombing runs from its airfield.     Battle of Okinawa

    This was the last major battle in WWII and one of the bloodiest. In an attempt to capture the Ryukyu islands the U.S. Army and Marine Corps made a final push towards Japan. Although the U.S. won the battle countless live were lost. This is also the time we experienced Japan's kamikaze fighters that would dive their plane nose first into the Navy's fifth fleet.

    VE Day or "victory in Europe day" was the day in which both Great Britain and the U.S. celebrated their success in defeating the Nazi's.     Dropping of the atomic bombs

    The atomic bombs that were dropped on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki marked the first ever use of atomic bombs during war. According to Truman (the U.S. president at the time) the bombs were dropped in order to shortened the war in the Pacific.     VJ Day

    VJ Day or "victory over Japan day" was the day that Japan had surrendered in WWII. Japan surrender comes just days after the world witnessed the first use of atomic bombing. Japan officials were shocked on the damage that had been done that they almost had no choice but to surrender. This officially marked the end of WWII.
