Radar is an important thing even now. It originated during WWII when they found out how to bounce energy waves off objects in the sky, which in turn, told them the location of that object. It was very effective in preparing cities for air raids, so attackers lost the element of surprise. Now, we use it to detect potential attackers on the other side of the planet.

During WWII, Britain was more susceptible to attacks from Axis countries, so they did more to make sure the children were safe.

During WWI, Germany was in possession of Polish land, but it was taken away from them in terms of the Treaty of Versailles. Germany decided to take Poland back by force.

After FDR dies, Vice President Harry Truman becomes president. He gave the O.K. to bomb Japan twice. But he did help us win the war.

Before penicillin was discovered, hundreds of soldiers were dying from the common cold out on the battle fields. But when scientists realized that you could extract a certain fungus from certain substances, they began making it in massive amounts, and sending it to the army. Instantly, prospects changed, and soldiers stopped dying as much.

In an attempt to subdue Japan, America decided to drop a massive nuclear warhead on Hiroshima, a city in Japan. The blast affected thousands of people. Only 80,000 people died from the initial blast, but afterwards, the death toll rose to almost 200,000 because of radiation poisoning and cancer.

When Japan didn't surrender after Hiroshima was bombed, America tried again with another bomb, dropped this time, on Nagasaki. It almost as detrimental as Hiroshima, and still the worst thing America has done. Only 150,000 people died form immediate and aftermath effects.

This was a time for celebration everywhere in the world, because it marked the day of Japan's surrender, thus making it the end of WWII.
