    The Axis Powers Forming
    On October 25, 1936 Germany and Italy signed the
    Rome - Berlin Axis. The next month in November Germany and Japan signed the Anti-Comintern Pact, promising a front against communism. Later on August 23, 1939 Germany and and the USSR signed the Nazi-Soviet Nonagression Pact. Thus the axis powers had formed.

    Invasion of Poland
    Germany and the Soviet Union in a nonagression pact both invaded Poland. Poland surrendered very quickly. Germany and the Soviet Union divided Poland evenly.
  • Battle of Britain

    Soon after France surrendered, Germany began the attacks on Italy. The German Luftwaffe mercilessly bombed Great Britain. At first, they targeted military targets, but then they targeted towns and civillians instead, Then Britain was able to used their airfields and military factories to build back up their airforce and start fighting back against the Germans.

    Germany believed the Russians could be dealt with quickly, and they were the only reason Great Britain stayed in the war. The Germans planned on being done before winter, but that was not the case. The winter came, and they had no winter clothes. The Russians launched a counter attack, and this was the first time the Germans had been stopped.

    Because of United State sanctions, Japan tried to cripple our navy at Pearl Harbor. They tried to destroy our aircraft carriers, but they were away at the time. The Japanese destroyed many ships including the battleship USS Arizona.

    Under the command of General Douglas MacArthur the United States won two decisive battles. The Battle of Midway and Coral Sea were both very decisive battle in World War II. They crippled the Japanese fleet and stopped future invasion in the Pacific from Japan. Also, they saved Australia from the Empire of Japan.

    Battle of Stalingrad
    The Germans had pushed the Russians back very far into their own cities. The Russians stubborn and refusing to give up held out until the winter. The Germans were not prepared for winter. The Russians then launched a new offensive and defeated the German army at Stalingrad. The German Sixth Army was defeated. This was considered the best of German troops.

    Rommel Stopped at El Alamein
    The Battle of El Alamein was a very important battle for the allies to win. It was part of Germany's last offensive. When German Field Marshal Rommel was stopped at El Alamein, that stopped Germany from cutting off Great Britain's oil.

    Under the command of US General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the allies opened up a new front with Germany. There was heavy resistence from the Germans. Thousnds of soldiers died. Within three months more than two million men had landed at Normandy.

    The Russians had pushed the Germans into thier capital, Berlin. The Russians launched an all out assault on the capital. They had more than double than all the assets the Germans had. Losses on both sides. Russia signified its victory by raising its flag above the Reichstag.

    Instead of Invading the mainland of Japan and sacrificing millions of lives, Harry S. Truman decided to drop the only two available nukes that the US had. The US dropped the first nuke on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. Japan didn't surrender, so on August 9, 1945 the second nuke was dropped on Nagasaki. Japan surrendered a few days later.

    On April 30, 1945 Hitler in his underground bunker, commited suicide, he also had his wife commit suicide, and he killed his dog.
    On May 7, 1945 German commanders surrendered. On August 6 and 9, 1945 nuclear bombs were dropped on Japan. Japan surrendered on August 14, 1945.
