    the battle of stalingrad was the true turning point in WWII. it ended any realistic plans hitler had of europe domination. the Nazis tried to push o, but they where truely defeated by the harsh winters. nazi armies where forced to retreat westward back to germany. instead, it was the Soviet Union that went on the offense.

    the battle of Midway was the true turning point of the war in the pacific. Ending the seemingly unstopable japanese advance. japan still had a powerful navy, committed troops, and fortified position. But it would never again threatend Hawaii or pacific.

    more than 11,000 planes prepared the way attempting to destroy german communication and transportation networks and soften Nazi beach defenses. ohmaha was one of the beaches assigned to the US, and it was the heaviest resestant. on the cliffs over looking the beach, the Germans had dug trenches and built small concrete pillbox structures from which heavy artillery could be fired.

    the Battle of the Bulge was a desperate attempted to drive a wdge betwee Americans and British forces. Insteand, it crippled Germany by using its reserves and demoralizing its troops. ultimately it shortended the time Hitler had left.

In 36 days of fighting, more than 23,000 marines became casualties. but they took the island. the famous photograph of six Marines planting the American Flag on Iwp Jima symbolizing the heroic sacrifice of American soilders.

    on August 6, 1945, U.S. pilots dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. it exploded at 9:45 a.m. Within two minutes, more than 60,000 of Hiroshima's 344000 residents were dead or missing. then on August 9 they dropped a second bomb on Nagasaki, killing 35000 resedents.
