    Mao Zedong &People’s Republic of China
    Mao Zedong led The Chinese Communist Party.He was the chairman of The People’s Republic of China leading the nation's communist revolution.
  • Japan’s invasion of China

    Japan’s invasion of China
    The reason for Japan invading China was because China would not let them expand and have access to the raw materials and resources they wanted. This led to the second Sino-Japanese war.
  • Germany invades Poland

    Germany invades Poland
    The Soviet Union and Germany who had recently signed a non-agression pact together made a secret plan to invade Poland and split it up after it was conquered. France and Biritain helped Poland defend itself against Germany around two days after they invaded by declaring war on Germany.
  • Battle of Britain

    In the Battle of Britain Germany launched an air attack against Britian. They did not win due to Britain having stronger defense mechanisms then them. This was the start of the war to come between Britain and the Germans.
  • Tripartite pact

    The Tripartite pact was when Japan, Itlay, and Germany became Allies. It stated that if a force that was not at war with them yet attacked, they would help and defend one another. This was mainly for portection from the U.S.
  • Lend-Lease Act

    The Lend-Lease Act was when the United States was helping other places such as Great Britain by sending things they were in need of such as ammunition and other raw materials, and when they could no longer pay with cash this act was put into place, It said that the U.S. would accept payment that was satifactory to them, not necessarily money. It mainly helped the places opposed to facism, Britain, and China.

    Blitzkreg was also known as lightning war, this was an attempt to defeat the Soviet Union by Germany breaking the non-agression pact.
  • Leningrad blockade

    This was also called the Leningrad Siege. It was when Germany attempted to blockade Leningrad from the world and starve the people here until they surrendered. They were wrong when estimating how long it would take until they would surrender and after about two and a half years Soviet forces took out the Germans, Leningrad not having surrendered.

    This was when Japan did a surprise attack on the U.S. Pearl Harbor naval base in Hawaii.

    This was a naval battle that was fought mainly with aircraft and it helped end the threat of Japanese invasions in the Pacific when killing some of Japan's best naval pilots.

    This was the Allies fought Germany on the beaches of Normandy helping millions escape from Nazi control.
  • Yalta Conference

    The Yalta Conference was a conference in World War II between the three cheif Allied leaders.Discussed here was the plan for Germany's punishments and court date, how to do deal with the defeated countries in places such as Europe, and much more. In this conference Stalin was expected to keep his word which did not happen in the long run.

    Iwo Jima was invaded by U.S. troops by the end of World War II because it could be of much use for themin the war. The Japanese defenders that were there were so deep in trenches and caves that it took weeks to cause them harm. After around a month of fighting the U.S. won.

    This was a conference at Potsdam between the Allies of World War II and was the last Allied summit conference. Here they discussed peace, operations against Japan, and their declaration on Germany.

    In Japan Hiroshima & Nagasaki were bombed by the U.S. The reason they have for doing this by President Truman was that this new weapon could defeat Japan without the loss of many U.S. lives compared to if they were to invade. The two bombs killed thousands on thousands of people devastating these areas forever.

    This was the day that Japan had surrendered to the Allies ending World War II. It stands for "Victory over Japan Day."

    This was an international organization that was made to help the members in it so they could work together against the Axis powers.

    This was annouced by the United States president stating that the U.S. would give military and economic aid to the governments threatened by communist insurrection in Greece and where pressure was being placed by the soviet expansion around the Mediterranean area in Turkey. The U.S, congress aidedthis with $400,000,000.
  • Marshall Plan

    The Marshall Plan was a plan to help the economies of the European countries and the U.S. supported this. They did this bercause they feared that the people's suffering in these areas would lead to communism seeming a good idea to them. With helping thses places it would lead to democracy being able to thrive.
  • NATO

    The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was made to take away from the power in central and eastern europe by the Soviet Union. It mainly stated that if one of the places in the treaty were attacked it was as if they all were attacked and they will help the party that has been attacked.

    The Korean War was the war between South (supported by the U.S,) and North Korea (supported by the Soviet Union. The war ended with millions of casualties and both sides being divided still to this day.

    When Joseph Stalin died some people suspected forced foul play being involved. After Stalin, Nikita Khrushchev became in charge of the Soviets leading them during the height of the Cold War. Khrushchev did not agree with Stalin's ideas and wanted a de-Stalinization and form an idealized a Lenninist model to run the Soviet Union.
  • Vietnam War

    This was a war that was fought by North Vietnam and it's allies called the Viet Corg (which was communist) against South Vietnam with the U.S. being it's allies. This war came from the Cold War between the Soviet Union ideals and the U.S. The Vietnam War was called “War Against the Americans to Save the Nation” in Vietnam.
  • Warsaw Pact

    This Pact was also callled the Warsaw Treaty of Friendhsip originally consisting of the Soviet Union and Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, and Romania. It was a plan to strengthen the Soviet Union. After democracy was spread in eastern Europe the pact was eventually said to be non-existent.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik is what started the space age and was the first satellite launched by man. It was launched by the Soviet Union.
  • Bay of Pigs

    Bay of Pigs
    The Bay of Pigs was when the U.S. invaded Cuba in order to overthrow Castro who had just aligned with the Soviet Union. They sent in the CIA to a place in Cuba named the Bay of PIgs but back up never came from the air support and they failed in chnaging people's minds about Castro. The military there killed or captured all the CIA sent there in about 3 days.
  • Berlin Wall

    The Berlin Wall was a blockade that surrounded West Berlin showing the Cold War's seperation between East and West Germany. First it was made of barbed wire, then it was built with concrete and people protecting it not allowings anyone to go in or out. Eventuallly after East Germany's communist leader was thrown out of power openings were made in the wall aand the people here were able to travel freely again.
  • Wannsee Conference

    Wannsee Conference
    This conference was a meeting of Nazi officials to plan what to do with the Jewish people in Europe. The first idea was to send them all to Australia but then they decided this would be too difficult in the war. They agreed on sending them to the east and making them into labour gangs. They never said they were going to kill them but this conference was eventually the main thing that lead up to the Holocaust.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    The Cuba Missile Crisis was when the Soviet Union was holding nuclear missiles and launch sites in Cuba which could deploy to the U.S. within minutes. This U.S, saw this as a major threat and immediately took action with President Kennedy sending a speech to the superpower which could've lead to a nuclear war. Nikita Khrushchev agreed to what Kennedy said to remove the U.S.S.R. missiles from Cuba as long as the U.S, promised to not invade Cuba and to remove their missiles from Turkey.
  • Gorbachev

    Mikhail Gorbachev was the general secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990 because he tried to democratize the political system of the Soviet Union and decentralize its economy. This leading to the breaking up of the SWoviet Union and the downfall of communism.

    The reason for the fall of the Soviet Union was mainly because of the reforms pushed by the leader Gorbachev that eventually lead to his resignation. It fell after the Cold War. The image shows a statue of Lenin being dismantled after the fall.
