The Battle if Stalingrad happened August 1942 until February 1943 was the soviet defense of the city of Stalingrad from the Germans. Almost 2 million people were killed tens of thousands were civilians. Stalin instructed his forces in the city to not retreat famously order no.227 "not a step back". because of order227 any retreating Soviet soldier would be shot on the spot by a commanding officer the battle was the bloodiest of the war and turned the tide putting Germany on the defensive. -
