    Battle of Dunkirk
    It started when hundreds of thousands of allied troops were stranded on the beach of Dunkirk. 198,000 British troops were saved. 338,000 total allied troops were saved from the beach. Prime minister Neville Chamberlain resigned just earlier in the month which made Churchill the prime minister during Dunkirk. The evacuation was called Operation Dynamo. Ended June 4, 1940
  • Battle of Britain

    Battle of Britain
    A German Luftwaffe attack on the British air force. It ended in a British victory. It was a three month battle. Britain was left alone against Germany when the French quit WWII. The battle was named after a Winston Churchill speech a month before, "The battle of France is over, I expect the battle of Britain to begin." Ended October 31, 1940

    Battle of Leningrad
    This was a German attack on the soviets. This siege lasted 900 days. The Finnish forces worked on the German's side but still failed. Leningrad is now known today as Saint Petersburg. Leningrad was part of a three part objective for the Germans. Ended January 27, 1944
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    Battle of Stalingrad
    The Battle of Stalingrad was a Soviet victory over the Germans. This battle took over five months to end. It was known as the bloodiest battle in history with 2 million dead. The battle involved a lot of intense Luftwaffe bombing which turned the city into rubble. The Germans then were able to push the soviets back to the Volga river, but then lost towards the winter. After Stalingrad was successfully defended soviets waved their flags around the city. Ended February 2, 1943
  • Operation Torch

    Operation Torch
    Operation Torch was an invasion of the French North Africa. It was an operation involving United states, United Kingdom, Italy, and Germany. It was the first major operation that the U.S was a part of in Europe. This resulted in an allied victory in Africa. Allies were able to gain control of Morocco and Algeria after the operation. Ended November 10, 1942

    It was the largest most amphibious invasion in history.
    There were 160,000 troops and half of them were Americans
    There were five assault beaches
    It allowed allied presence in western Europe for the first time since 1940
    Australian, Belgian, Czech, Dutch, French, Greek, New Zealand, Norwegian, Rhodesian, and polish troops were involved Ended the same day.

    Last major German offensive campaign. Third deadliest battle of america 19,276 died. The battle was located in the ardennes. This was a surprise attack that completely caught the allied forces off guard. It left German forces severely weakened resulting in them losing the battle and soon the war. Ended January 25, 1945
  • Battle of Berlin

    Battle of Berlin
    The last battle of World war II. It resulted in the suicide of Adolf Hitler and deaths of high ranking Nazi officials. This battle was the destruction of Nazi Germany and the end of WWII. The soviets were then able to take control of east Germany after this battle. Stalin was then able to take the entire city after this battle which started a cold war. Ended May 2, 1945
