    The Battle of Britain, between Britain's Royal Airforce and Nazi Germanys Airforce. The first battle was fought in the air. The battle lasted from July 10 to October 31, 1940. Pilots and support crews took the battle for control of the airspace over Great Britain, Germany, and the English Channel.

    On December seventh, 1941, hundreds of Japanese planes managed to destroy and damage almost twenty American naval vessels, battleships, and airplanes. Over 2,400 Americans were killed during the attack, including civilians. The day after Franklin D. Roosevelt declared war on Japan.

    Japan's goal during WWll was to get rid of the United States to gain territory in Asia and the southwest Pacific islands. Japan wanted to defeat the US Pacific Fleet to use Midway as a base to attack Pearl Harbor. On June fourth, four aircraft from Japan attacked and damaged the US base on Midway. The US attacked back and it forced Japan to give up.

    On August 23, 1942, the 6th Army of the Wehrmacht began their attack. The battle of Stalingrad was a terrible military campaign between Nazi Germany, Russian forces, and Axis Powers during World War ll. It is known as an infamous battle because it is one of the largest, longest, and bloodiest battles in modern warfare.

    Operation Torch involved about 65,000 troops that landed at Casablanca, Algiers, and Oran on the French North African coast. This was the first time U.S. troops sought action against Nazi Germany.

    In the Soviet City of Kursk in western Russia, the battle of Kursk began. Germany launched Operation Citadel, which was Hitler's response to the defeat of the battle of Stalingrad. This battle was the last chance for Germany to regain dominance on the eastern front and would be their final offensive.

    D-Day lasted from June 1944 to August 1944. Around 156,000 American, British, and Canadian forces landed on five beaches across a 50-mile stretch. This invasion was one of the largest marine military assaults in history.

    The Battle of the Bulge lasted from December 16, 1944, to January 25, 1945. Winston Churchill called this "the greatest American battle of the war". Hitler wanted to split the Allies in their drive toward Germany. The German troops failed to divide France, Britain, and America with the Ardennes offensive paved the way to victory for the allies.

    The battle of Iwo Jima is known as a military campaign between Japans Army and the U.S. Marines. On February 19, 1945 the U.S. invaded them. This battle lasted five weeks. About 7,000 marines died and 200 of 21,000 Japanese were killed.

    The Battle of Okinawa
    This was the last battle of World War ll and is known as one of the bloodiest. More than 180,000 U.S. marines and others went on to the Pacific island of Okinawa for a final shot at Japan. This invasion was part of "Operation Iceberg", to invade and keep the Ryukyu islands.
    Though it was an Allied victory, kamikaze fighters and rainy weather and fierce fighting on land, sea, and air led to a large number of deaths.

    On April 30, 1945, under his headquarters in Berlin, in a bunker, Aldof Hitler committed suicide by swallowing a cyanide capsule and shooting himself.

    An American B-29 bomber dropped the first worlds atomic bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima, on August 6, 1945. This bomb killed around 80,000 people, thousand later died due to radiation exposure.

    Atomic Bombing Nagasaki
    Three days after the bombing of Hiroshima, a second B-29 was dropped on the people of Nagasaki. Murdering around 40,000 people. From this Hirohito, the Japanese emperor surrendered in World War ll in a radio address on August 15.
