Battle of Coral Sea
First air-sea battle in history. The Japanese wanted to control the Coral Sea with an invasion of Port Moresby in southeast New Guina, but allied forces put a stop to it. The U.S. lost one carrier and Japan advanced on to Australia. -
Battle of Midway
Japan wanted to lure the U.S. fleet into the open to destroy it but the Japanese code was broken and Japan suffered a lose of 4 carriers. It was the turning point of the war. -

D-Day
Somewhere around 156,000 American and British landed on the beaches of Normandy, it was the beginning of the end of the war in Europe -
Battle of the Bulge
Took place in the winter of 1944. Hitler wouldn't give up and the Germans created a large bulge in the Allied line but it failed. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
(Very famous for the flag raising ontop of Mount Surbachi.) Battle on a volcanic island about 750 miles away from Tokyo. -
Okinawa
Allies were 350 miles away from Japan. The Japanese didnt attack right away, they knew the area very well so they hid in the caves and got more strength. Five days later Japan attacked leaving it the bloodies battle in the Pacific War. -

Japan Surrenders
By this time, Japan really had nothing left. The navey and air force were destroyed. After all the intense bombing there really wasnt much left to the cities. The formal surrender that took place abord the U.S.S. Missouri. The war is offically over. -
Nuremberg Trials
Lot of things happened after the war, including the Nuemberg Trials. It was a series of 13 trials carried out in Nuremberg, Germany from 1945-1949 for the purpose of bringing Nazi war criminals to justice.
