    AuschwitzConcentraion camps were labor camps used to tourture and imprison Jew during WWII. Auschwitz was the largest concentration camp. Auschwitz was located in Poland. It was made up of 3 concentration camps in one. It was a camp that had forced work and killed people. The people were sent from a forced labor camp to a death camp when they became old or when they were weak to be killed. Some were also tested for experiments that tested medical things, 1.2 million people were killed in this camp.

    Japan invades china initiating WWII in western Pacific
    The Japanese army attacked Chinese troops in Manchuria in an attempt to gain control of the entire province. This attack became known as the Manchria Incident. This attack initiated WWII in the Pacific west and marked a change in the foreign policy of Japan. The attack was to stop threating Chinese forces try and start competing with the US in the geological world dominance. Japan thought that this invasion and the war mobilization efforts were all in an attempt compete with the "world powera."

    Assuming Germany would attack through central Belgium, France and British commanders sent troops to meet them. However the main attack came from southen Belgium and north Luxembourg. German troops and tanks advanced to the coast and caused more than 300,000 French and British troops evacuate the beach. Paris, the French capital, fell into German hands June 14, 1940.     Germany, Italy, and Japan sign Tripartite Pact
    The treaty was signed in Berlin making Germany, Japan, and Italy allies. The pact said that each country would provide mutual assistance should any of the signees be attaked. The focus of the treaty was to make American think twice before joining the Allies. The pact also recognized that Italy and Germany had leadership in Europe while Japan got control on the "Greater Eastern Asia."

    Thus far American had remained neutral in Europe until Hitler declred war on the US. The Axis powers had decided to wage war against the US on an oarl agreement but still not decided how to start the war. Japan made an attempt to get German to help initiate the attack but they were not bound to do so, only to protect Japan if they were attacked. The German commanders feared that another atagonist would overwhelm the German army. Hitler thought otherwise, assuming the US would declare war first.

    Japanese warplanes bombed the US naval base at Oahu Island's Pearl Harbor.Over 200 airmen destroyed 18 US ships, more tham 180 planes, another 150 planes damaged, and killed over 3,400 men. Japan lost less than 100 men. The US, on the short tem, was crippled. US forces were slowed down in the Pacific and allowed Japan further advance in to southeast Aisa. It would not be another few months before US would recover.

    After over 3,000 causualties at Pearl Harbor, President Roosevelt declared war on Japan. "Yesterday," the president proclaimed, "December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan. No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory."

    Eisenhoward gives the go ahead for the invasion of Farnce, D-Day. 18,000 British and American troops already on the ground were joined by over 100,000 Allied troops to the shore. Allied casualties were light and the attacked allowed US to have a place to build up strong troops to futher attack.

    US planes drop the atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Nagasaki. A few days before, the US bombed another Japanese city and destroyed that. The bomb nicknamed "fat man" killing more than 60,000 to 80,000 people instantly. The bombe before killed anywhere from 120-000 to 170-000. Japan was devestated at the results of the two bombings.

    Japan surrenders to US on unconditional terms. Devestated by the bombings only days prior, the Japanese foreign minister Mamoru Shigemitsu, and the chief of staff of the Japanese army, Yoshijiro Umezu, signed the "instrument of surrender" granting Allied forces victory ending the war. Depicted is the formal event of the signing of the terms of surrender.
