    Japan had bombs the US Navy base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. They did this because they were tired of the US trade embargoes. As a result, global conflict had commenced and Germany declared war on the US. Followed by Japan invading the Philippines. Source

    It was a brutal military campaign between Russian forces and Nazi Germany. The reason behind the battle was that Hitler had tried to control Stalingrad for propaganda purposes. Nearly 2 million were killed or injured as a result. Source

    Allies began their invasion of Italy with little resistance. This led to Mussolini being forced to resign and later arrested. This made it easier for the Allies to win the war without interference from Italy. Source

    Forces landed on five Normandy beaches. Aircrafts supported arial defense while bombing German defenses. It caught Germany by surprise and prevented them from being able to counter-attack. Cherbourg and later Paris was liberated as a result. Source

    It was the greatest American battle of the war which had lasted 6 weeks. The goal of Hitler was to split the allies in their drive towards Germany. Due to the failure by Germany, it became easier for the allies to achieve victory. Source

    American people had entered the Bavarian town of Dachau where they found many dead people and barely alive people. They had fed the people that remained there but they could not handle it due to their condition. They had needed to be nursed before they were able to be brought elsewhere. Source

    Great Britain and the United States celebrated Victory in Europe Day. This day marks the day when German forces laid down their arms. They put out flags and banners to rejoice in the defeat of the Nazi war machine. Source

    America dropped the bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima which immediately killed 80000 people. Tens of thousands dying more due to the radiation. 3 days later, There was another bombing of Nagasaki which killed 40000 people. This was done so that the Japan emperor would surrender. Source

    On August 14th, Japan announced that it had surrendered from the war. This had ended World War II. Since then, August 14th and the 15th have been known as Victory over Japan Day. Japan surrendered due to the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Source
