    World War 2 started on September 1, 1939 with the German Invasion of Poland, which caused the French and the British to declare war on Hitlers Nazi army. On Septmber 2, 1945 the Japanses surrendered and the war was then over.

    The battle of the Atlantic

    The battle of the Atlantic invovled German U-boats sinking unprotected U.S ships along with other allied Merchant ships. The Germans were very successful at the begining of the war but by the middle of the war the allies had the upper hand on the Germans. This battle lasted through out the entire second world war.
  • Soviet union joins allies

    The Soviet Unjion joins the allies which is Great Britain, France, and Canada
  • Pearl Harbor attacked by Japan

    2 full blown attacks took place in Pearl harbor casuing 2400 deaths and 1178 wounded both being military and civilian personelle. 18 ships and 350 planes were either sunk or damaged.
  • US declares war on Japan

    After the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor the US declares war on the country of Japan.
  • Germany and Italy declare war on US

    Since the US declared war on Japan, The germans and Italians felt is was only right to declare war on the US since all three Japan, Germany and Italy were allies.

    The United States decide to join the allies which now consist of Britain, Canada, France and as of June the Soviet Union

    Battle of the Coral Sea

    Every battle before this one, the Japanese were winning every battle and slowly taking over the Pacific. But the Americans and Austrialians stopped an invasion that japan planned. In reality Japan won this battle but the allies were able to stop their invasion for the first time. The U.S. Military began to use the ''Island Hopping'' technique to weaken the Japanese Defence line.

    Battle of Midway

    June, 1942. Admiral Chester Nimitz intercepes the Japanese code and lauches a surprise attack before the japanese could attack first. This attack took place on the Pacific Japanese island known as Midway. The U.S Military was successful with their surprise attack. The damage caused to japan was much greater than the damage caused to the U.S. Japan Lost 4 carriers, a heavy crusier, 3 destroyers, 250+planes and 4,800 men.     Battle of Stalingrad

    The Germans violated the noaggression with the Soviet Union and planed an attack, This battle was caused by Hitler wanting to take control over the Soveits oil fields. The germans ended up losing this battle because Hitler comanderd his army to stay back. The soviet uion took advantage of Hitlers decision and won but they eded up losing 1.1 million soilders. This didnt stop The Soviets to moce west towards Germany.

    the Normandy Invasion also know as D-Day took place on a 60 mile strech of beach (Juno, Ohmaha, and Sword beach) There were a total of 156,000 troops deployed, 4,000 landing crafts, 600 warships, 11,000 planes. This battle is the largest Sea-Air operations of all time.

    Battle of the bulge

    The Germans broke through the Americans front lines on decmeber 16, 1944 and this battle took more than a year to be over. The Germans were winning at the start of this battle but in the end the Americans pulled ahead and won but not by much. Over 100,000 Germans were killed and also 80,000 Americans. The Germans also lost 600 tanks and 1,600 planes. this lead to their defeat.

    Yalta Conference

    This took place in februray right before the war ended. President Fraknlin D. Roosevelt, Joseph Stalin and Winston Churchill met in Yalta in the soviet union to decuss WW2 and the post effects that may come. This conference set up what we call now the United Nations.

    Iwo Jima

    The Iwo Jima was an Island that was critical for the U.S victory, 27,000 Japanese troopes held Iwo Jima. 26,800 Japanese troops were killed and 6,000 U.S Marines were killed in the process of taking Iwo Jima.

    Battle of Okinawa

    Okinawa was the Japanese last defence stronghold, in an attempt to protect their Defence the japanese used 1,900 kamikaze attacks on the U.S, over 100,000 Japanese troops died and the U.S only lost between 7,000-12,000 Troops died. But they ended up winning this battle andd taking over Okinawa.

    On April 12, 1945 at the beginnign of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's 4th term as president he passed away. The United states were shocked, whole country went through a grieving period. After F.D.R's Death Vice-President Harry S. Truman takes charge and the United States new active President.

    Hitler and Eva Braun decided to commit suicide by using a gun and cyanide, Both of ther bodies were burned. And on May 7th, 1945 was on the cover of Time magazine telling the public that the rein of Hitler was now over.
  • Manhattan Project: Hiroshima

    The U.S military attempted to make Japan surrender by threatening their government with an Atomic bomb. The japanese didn't surrender so the U.S unleased their atomic Bomb nick named ''Little Boy'' and dropped it on hiroshima. Within 45 seconds the whole city collapsed into dust leaving no survivors.

    Since the Japanese didnt surrender to the U.S, they dicided not to surrender, so the U.S unleashed their second atomic bomb nick named ''Fat Man'' and dropped it on a differentt city called Nagasaki. This bomb leveled half of the city and both bombs counted up a total of 200,000+ dead japanese citivians and military.

    Nuremberg Trials. Nuremberg, Germany

    International Tribunal court tried Nazi Officals for war crimes, over 20 nations tried the Nazi war criminals in Nuremberg, Germany. 12 of the 22 nazi offcials were sentenced to death for the crimes commited during WW2. 200 more nazi officials were found guilty but thet recieved less harsh sentences.
