Hitler's rise was like no other. Adolf Hitler had become chancellor of Germany a little over a year before August 1944. In August of 1934, Paul Von Hindenburg died. This made Hitler the new president of Germany. He quickly got rid if the president rule and declared himself Fuhrer. This is an important date as this started the rise of Hitler and the Nazis. They would eventually start to take over the countries around them. -
Before September 4, Hitler and Britain had both signed the Munich Pact. This stated that Hitler Would not take all of Czechoslovakia if Britain and France would not get in his way. He then proceeded to take it. Britain and France declares war. This is an important event as this is the start of a second world war. After this Hitler took over much of France and a lot of land around it. -
After taking numerous islands from Japan, the US had controlled most of pacific. However, Japanese Admiral Isorku Yamamoto had something else up his sleeve: A surprise attack on US Naval Base Pearl Harbor, located in Hawaii. It was successful. On December 7, the Japs had attacked Pearl Harbor in ruins after targeting main battleships. The next day August 8, The US declared war. This is Important as this event kick-started the war between Japan and the US. -
After taking Stalingrad, North Africa, and Sicily, the Allies had pretty much stopped Hitler from expanding out more. Hitler had been controlling France ever since they gave it up. The Allies were ready to take it back. Over 175,000 troops stormed Normandy. The Allies came up victorious. They ended up taking Luxembourg, Belgium and France from Germany. This was an important date as this was the beginning of the end for German occupation. -
Taking place during the winter, The Battle of the Bulge was a unique battle. This was Hitler's first offensive battle, but his battle plan was different. He wanted to attack the Allies through the middle and split them into two. This did not work out for the Axis and evidently lost. Weather also played a big factor and caused communication problems. This was an important event because Germany was forced to retreat back to Germany, ruining Hitler's grand plan to rule the world. -
After winning a historical 4 term, everything was going swimmingly for FDR. The allies had stopped Hitler from advancing and every started to push him back. Until on April 16 1945, FDR suddenly passed away. That meant that Harry S Truman Became the new president. This is an important date as FDR wasn't able to have any say in things anymore because he was gone. This means that Truman was in charge and change FDR's plans and make it his own. -
Also known as victory of Europe Day, The Soviets successfully took
over Berlin ending the Nazi's reign. After Hitler's suicide on April 30, General Wilding had to unconditionally surrender to the Soviets instead of Hitler. This was an important date as this was the official end of Nazi Germany. -
After refusing to surrender, Japan was still trying to fight us. In return, the the US dropped "Little Boy", an atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima. This bomb killed almost 100,000 people instantly and killed another 100,000 people after. President Truman said that if Japan still wouldn't unconditionally surrender, more bombs would be dropped on other locations. This is an important event because it showed that the US was willing to destroy Japan in order for them to surrender. -
After one bombing, Japan still would not surrender. The next day of good weather was the day the US drops another bomb. And they did. "Fat Man", the atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki on August 9. This was an important event as this second and last bombing lead Japan to surrender in the coming days. Also, these bombings were a bad look for the US politically, -
After two bombings and warnings of more, Japan had had enough and unconditionally surrendered to the US. The US had taken over Japan and they controlled it. However, V-J day was not the official day the war ended, as April 28, 1952 is when they ended the war and also ended the US's occupation of Japan. This was an important event as the Allies have successfully defeated the Axis and ended the war all together. This is also important because the newly built japan was built to look like the US.
