  • Japan Invades China

    Seen as the true start of WW2 Japans invasion of China caused outrage across the world. With the League of Nations then instead of stopping japan shunning them and kicking them out of the League of Nations.
  • Germany Invades Poland

    Following the non-aggression pact between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. Hitler then ordered for the invasion of Poland, with the use of blitzkrieg tactics.
  • Britain and France Declare War on Germany

    Due to the agreement that had been made prior to Poland's invasion, France and Britain had guaranteed the integrity of Polish borders. When Germany invaded, they kept to their promise, declaring war on Nazi Germany.
  • Russia Invades Eastern Poland

    As part of the Non-Aggression pact that had been signed with the Germans, Russia was to invade eastern Poland. While Germany invaded western Poland.
  • Russian invasion of Finland

    In the months following the invasion of Poland, the invasion of Finland was soon ordered. Fighting a much larger force, the Finnish surrender was inevitable, however the Red Army was severely battered from Finnish soldiers who stood their ground against such an onslaught.
  • Germany Invades France

    Following the success of the blitzkrieg tactic in Poland and several other small nations, Hitler set his sights on France. Taking advantage of the forest along the France Germany border, German forces managed to sneak by the French and British defensive line. Eventually French and British forces were pushed out of mainland France.
  • Italy Invades Southern France

    After having seen the success of German troops in their invasion of Poland and ongoing invasion of France, Italy wanted to make themselves look like a useful ally to Germany. Declaring war on France and invading from the south.
  • Battle of Britain Begins

    Following the invasion of France, Hitler then ordered the bombing of Britain. The bombing occurring both day and night, with even then, Britain still refusing to surrender.
  • Italians Invade British Controlled Egypt

    From the Italian controlled area of Libya, Italian troops began the invasion of Egypt. The goal of the offensive was to gain control of the Suez Canal.
  • Afrika Korps Sent to Reinforce Italian Troops

    With Italian troops being slowly defeated, Hitler had ordered the newly formed Afrika Korps lead by Erwin Rommel to support allied forces. Now with German assistance, the British were once again being pushed back.
  • Germany Begins Invasion of Russia

    After taking control of or intimidating Europe into assistance, the invasion of Russia. When invading Russia, Germany was assisted by other nations ailed with Germany.
  • Japan Bombs Pearl Harbor

    On December 7th Japanese forces attacked the american harbor at Hawaii. This surprise attack damaged or destroyed almost the entire american pacific fleet.
  • America Declares War On Japan

    Following the attack on Pearl Harbor America declared war on Japan. American president Franklin D Roosevelt calling for congress to declare war on the aggressor.
  • Battle of Wake Island

    The American military base built in 1941. The battle took place on land, sea and air, with the island with the garrison eventually surrendering under Japanese assault.
  • The Doolittle Raid

    The Doolittle Raid was a bombing attack lead by James H. Doolittle, with the attack being that of the Japanese homeland. The attack consisted of carrier launched B-25 Mitchel bombers, launched by USS Hornet, bombing military targets on mainland Japan, then landing in eastern China.
  • Battle of Midway

    A Japanese attack with the intent of eliminating the U.S. as a power in the Pacific, the long term goal of taking control of Midway being to attack further American controlled islands. However due to Japanese codes having been decoded, the Americans knew the attack was coming, helping to win the battle.
  • Second Battle of El Alamein

    The allied victory in El Alamein marked the turning point in the war in northern Africa. The battle ending with the Afrika Korps being pushed out of Africa.
  • German Offensive at Kursk

    The final German offensive in the western front, was attacking the Russian defensive line at Kursk. With German forces delaying the attack to allow for more large vehicles, also allowing the Russians to build up a large enough defensive line to push back the German tanks.
  • D-Day

    A major allied offensive on the western front, a combined naval landing of American, British, Canadian and troops of other nationalities. All of these troops attacking the Normandy beachfront in France.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    One of the final German offensives on the western front, with German armored forces pushing back american forces in the Ardennes region. This offensive causing a inward dent in allied front lines giving the offensive its most commonly used name.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    With the goal of capturing the island of Iwo Jima, american forces. The battle for this island starting in February and ending in March, with only 216 Japanese soldiers being captured, due to them being unconscious.
  • Battle of Okinawa

    The battle for Okinawa was the largest amphibious assault in the pacific, and the bloodiest battle in the pacific. With Japanese forces having lost over 70,000 men, and America loosing 20,000.
  • First Atomic Bomb Dropped on Hiroshima

    In order to get Japan to surrender, the order was given to drop an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The bomb dropped on Hiroshima being Little Boy
  • Second Atomic Bomb dropped on Nagasaki

    With no still surrender from Japanese forces, another atomic bomb was dropped on the Nagasaki finally getting Japan to surrender. The bomb dropped on Nagasaki being the bomb Fatman.
  • Japan Surrendered Unconditionaly

    Following both the cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki being bombed by atomic weapons, the Japanese government finally surrendered. Part of the reason being to prevent Russia from getting involved.
