Japan had attacked China on this date. China had attepmted to slow down the attack by moving deeper into the large country. They did this to try and spread out Japans supplies as much as they could. China had the space and they used this to gain time to see if the other nations could help them.

Operation Barbarossa
Massive invasion of the Soviet Union by the Germans from the Baltic shore in the north to the Black Sea in the South. They moved fast and got to Moscow fast, But with bad weather and the Russian army got stronger and more men pushed them back western fast. At any rate, the German offensive failed. From that point on, Soviet forces advanced westward, entering the German capital of Berlin in April 1945.

I see this as a revange bombing. The britsh dropped thousands of pounds of bombs. When it was over 17,000 bomber sorties dropped more than 9,000 tons of bombs killing more than 30,000 people.Britain lost only 12 aircraft in this raid and had more then 700 fly.

D-Day (Normandy Invasion)
More then 130000 people land on the beach this day and millions in a few weeks. Storming the beach of Normandy. This was the Allied invasion. They liberate France August 25 1944. This helped lead the way to an Allied victory. The original date was the 5th of June but ended being the 6th because of the weather.

Operation Thunder Clap
Operation Thunderclap was cancelled but was planned to attack Berlin. This was cancelled because it was seemed impactical it would cause 220000 deaths. Soviet Union was gonna try and do this too but was also shut down. So instead of this plan they just did smaller attacks.

Battle of Iwo Jima
US marines stormed the land and captured the island. There was only abut 23000 Japanese troops and soldiers that fought with very elobrate plans and they fought throught caves. After a month of fighting the Americans cleared and wipedout all defending troops. Then they raised and American flag. The Japenese were all wiped out and American losses included 5,900 dead and 17,400 wounded.

Battle of the Bulge
In December 1944, Adolph Hitler attempted to split the Allied armies in northwest Europe by means of a surprise blitzkrieg. American units fought desperate battles to stem the German advance at St.-Vith, Houffalize . The Germans have done this previous times making the Blitzkrieg the style to try and take over.Thus the lineof allied troops looked like a bulge giving it its name.

President Truman declared September 2 to be VJ Day. Japan's acceptance of the terms of the Potsdam Declaration was broadcast alll over Japan. I think that if this day didnt happen we would hve dropped nother bomb on Japan. Then i think Japan would not be nearly as advanced as they are.
