the japanese army invadd china while they were in bad times in the late 1930's increasing their power and riegn.

Germany and the USSR pact
Germany and the USSR sign a non aggression pact so they can invade and take over Poland. This leads to Germany and Russia spliting the land of Poland and shortly lowers tension between the two countries. this ends when germany attacks the ussr in june of 1941

Germany attacks Poland
Germany pushes the allies over the limit by taking over part of Poland. This happens because of the non aggresion pact between Russia and Germany. this in turn causes the second worl war because Britian and France was fed up with Germany. they had control of poland untill 1945

german blitzkrieg
this was a swift fighting style that used heavy ground firepower ment to overwelm the other side and take a fast vistory. this was also known and transformed into "lightning warfare". this helps the german army advance quickly and win battles from 1939-1941. first notable use on the attack of poland. -
selective service act of 1940
the US made the draft mandatory for men. this helps women become more indipendant and have more rights. this is still in use now. notes -
operation barbarossa
The plan was carried out from June 22, 1941 – January 7, 1942 it was an attack plan on the USSR from Germany with the code name operation barbarossa. This causes the peace treaty between them to be broken and the USSR going aginst the Nazis in WW2. -
pearl harbor attack
Japan attaked the US base in Hawii named pearl harbor which brings America in to ww2 and completly changes the playing field and helps the allies win the war. from notes -
Wannsee Confrence
this was a meeting between the high ranking nazis held in berlin.
the meeting was to conclude the final conclusion which discriminates aginst all jews and "undesirables". this leads to the holocost which killed millions. -
japanese internment
FDR signed a bill after the attacks of pearl harbor to place all japanese people and or desendances into inturnment camps intill the war was over in 1945. -
battle of stalingrad
this was a major battle that lasted till 1943 that was between Germany and the USSR in which they show their strength and it turns the momentum in the allies favor. -
D-day
Operation overloard aka d-day was an attack by the allies on the beaches of normandy. nearly 156,000 US British and Canadian forces were sent out on this attack and 4000 of them were killed. this stunned the allies but later came to victory in normandy in August of 1944. -
the battle of the bulge
The battle of the buldge was Hitler and Nazi Germanys attempt at splittin off the allied forces in north west Europe. Their plan was to use lightning warfare and catch them off guard. Germany drove the allies back but in the end the allies overcame the Nazis because they were not perpaired for winter in Russia. The battle is so signifigant because the Nazi army lost alot of weapons and supplies, so much that they could not replace it. this helps the allies march toward victory. it ended jan. 25. -
battle of iwo jima
This was a battle fought in Japan between the US marines and the Japanese army. The marines attacked the base holding 23,000 japanese soldiers this battle was won by the US and helped start to secure victory in Japan. the battle ended on March 26 1945. -
Battle of okinawa
this was one of the larger battle including 287,000 US troops and 130,000 japanese troops. the battle lasted 82 days 142,000 casualties total. although both sides had large casualties the allies with the battle on June 22 1945. -
VE day
this is a day of celebration of defeating the german army . notes -
bombings of Japan
On August 6th the worls first atomic bomb on Hiroshima that instantly killed 80,000 people and three days later on the 9th America droped another bomb over Nagasaki that killed another 40,000. -
vj day
This was the date that Japan surrendered to the allies. notes
