    Hitler implemented his strategy the blitzkrieg. This consisted of using planes and tanks to quickly invade and then send in large amounts of infantry forces to take an area. Hitler was able to capture and annex western Poland.

    France surrendered from Germany after many long struggles and many defeats. Htler attacked and had the French army's back against the ocean at Dunkirk. Britain sent in a large naval force to rescue the French. The French then soon lost the capital Paris and then gave into Hitlers demands. He then set up a puppet government.

    Hitler then attacked Britain. At first he attacked the Royal Air Force. Focusing on airports and areas where planes could be launched. He bombed them then started to attack citys especially London. The British were able to withstand this partly because of thier ability to use radar and to decode the Germans messages. After some time Hitlere calleed off the attacks.

    Germans invaded using tanks and aircrafts into the USSR who was unprepared for war against Germany. The germans pushed over 500 miles and put a seiged on Lenigrad. They distroyed all food sources and killed over a million Russians who refused to surrender. Hitler then marched to Moscow but winter came before he could get there. They retreated about 125 miles from Moscow and held their position. They gained nothing and lost 500,000 men in the process.

    Japan attacked Pearl Harbor because they felt that it was a threat to them. General Yamamoto led the attack. The US had a base there and early that morning Japan launched a series of bombings. The US fleet was dessimated and there were over 3,400 casualties. It directly led to the US declaring war on Japan.

    President Roosevelt quicky asked congress to agree to declaring war on Japan. They voted and the declaration was passed. This was because of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

    The japanese have always considered it dishonorable to surrender so when they had prisoners of war they were treated very poorly. The allied prisoners were forced to march 50 miles and of the 70,000 men who started only 54,000 men survived.

    The Battle at Coral Sea marked a new type of warfare. Instead of ships attacking eachother they used aircraft carriers and launched planes that attacked the other ships. The Japanese won the battle but the allies were able to stop the Japanese Western expansion.

    The US had a major base at this area and the japanese were planning on attacking it. The plans however were decoded by the US and they started to plan themselves. They waited until the japanese started the assualt and then attacked. They destroyed 332 planes and 4 aircraft carriers. It turned the tide on the war in the pacific.

    Hitler attacked Stalingrad with over 1 million soldiers while the Russians decided to hold it at all costs. The battle there lasted over 2 years. Hitler set a seige on the city and said that the city was to be captured at all costs.

    The allies land and try to take back north africa. Britain sent in Bernard Montgomery or "Monty". He mounted a massive forward attack that lsted 4 days. They then sent in another batch of troops on the other side of the axis and trapped them making them surrender.

    Eventualy the Germans surrendered after lossing a million soldiers. It marked a turning point in the war. The Germans were now on the defense.

    The Japanese had dug into the islands and made bases on each. The Allies wanted to take hold of these to get bases closer to Japan. The US had gotten intel on a base that was being constructed they quickly mounted an attack and took hold of the air base. They however had trouble seizing the island. It lasted six months and is described by I- Witnesses as "hell". The Allies ended up winning.

    Stalin wanted the US and Britian to invade France. They however invaded Italy first. They first raided Cicily and captured it from the Germans. The fighting continued for a year in various areas. This made Mussolini lose his power. He was killed a year later. The fighting continued for a year.

    3 Million Allied troops stormed the beaches at Normandy. They had set up many dummy armies to keep Hitler guessing as to where the attack would be coming from. It was the largest air and ship raid ever made. The Allies were able to punch through after 3 days of fighting and heavy casualty raits on both sides.

    The US and Britain all wanted this small island as it was a strategic point to either destroy or protect Japan.The japanese wanted to take this island and desimate the US force. Their plan was daring and they sent in their entire navy fleet. The US destroyed them and thus destroyed most of the Japanese navy eliminating them in the war effort. The US won the battle and secured a strategic place in the battle against Japan.

    The allied forces were closing in on both sides of Hitler. He decided to counter attack on the west. The Germans pushed through American lines at first but was eventually destroyed because the Germans could not ressuply.

    The US warned Japan that they would launch a large scale attack on Japan. After Japan did not reply the US dropped the Atomic Bombs as to stop the war. Hundreds of thousands of people died in the blasts and the fallout that followed.
