On May 26, 1940 was when the escape from Dunkirk happened. Not everyone was able to escape from Dunkirk, but over more than 300,000 soldiers did. The transporting ships were sent to evacuate the troops and only 300,000 were able to be on board. However, the ships sunk during the constant raids from enemy aircraft, and in all together there was 198,000 British and 140,000 French and Belgian troops saved. -
The Fall of France also known as the battle of France happened during the second World War in May 1940. One of the operations that were organized for the battle was called Case Yellow. This operation was used to push the French defense forces out their territory. The 2nd operation was used to strengthen German's superiority in the region.

The Doolitle raid was a surprise attack on Tokyo, Japan by the U.S. bombers during WWII. The whole raid became a boost to American morale at a low point during the war. Right after Japan attacked on Pearl Harbor was when FDR wanted to fight back and get at Japan. The U.S. had some help from the Navy and created a plan.

It was on April 18, 1942 when the Air War over Japan was one of the first attacks America did on Japan. They shot sixteen twin engine B- 25s at about 688 miles west of Japan and hit Tokyo and other nearby places in China. Lieutenant colonel James H. Doolittle was the one who led the isolated raid. -
The battle of Midway started on June 4, 1945. One of the biggest wins against Japan during WWII. And the U.S. Pacific Fleet succeeded on wrecking 4 Japan aircraft carriers. Eliminating the United States was one of Japan's target because they wanted to gain territory.

On May 4-8, 1942 was when the Battle of Coral Sea happened. It was surprising that this battle lasted 4 days, this particular battle was marked as the first air- sea on May 1942. Japanese were probing to have control to coral sea with an invasion in southeast New Guinea. Even though both sides had damages, the Japanese were left with not enough planes to cover ground attack of Port Moresby.

It is believed that Japan seized Attu and Kiska to divert the U.S Pacific fleet. America was scared that if Japan occupied Attu and Kiska that it would be the first step toward an attack facing Alaska or the U.S. Pacific Northwest. Japanese was certain about holding Attu and Kiska would avoid the U.S from attempting to ravage Japan's home islands. Fun fact this battle was the only land battle fought in North America during WW II.

This particle event happened after the Anglo- American landings in French North America on November 1942. You may wonder what was the purpose of the meeting both men had? Also, by the effects of the fallout 60,000 would be dead by the end of the year. America had been warned by the Nazi Germany managing Nuclear weapons. That's why the United States had been working on developing atomic weapons since 1940. -
Some believe Japan's surrender had two dates because on Aug. 15 countries observed Public announcement of its surrender. Then on Sept. 2 was when Japan formally signed its surrender. Although Japan surrenders brought WW II to an end, and Japanese navy and air force were destroyed. It was by the summer of 1945.
