Australia was given the opportunity to host the Summer Olympic Games 2000 (aka Millenium Games because it was the year 2000) because International Olympic Committee (IOC) President, Juan Antonio Samaranch announced from Monte Carlo that Sydney, Australia would be the host for the Olympic Games of the year 2000 - that's why Sydney hosted the Olympics. Because the announcement, plenty of Jubilant celebrations and a feeling of pride spread throughout the whole nation. Melbourne hosted 1956 Games. -
