Pearl Harbor Attack
On December 7, 1941, the Japanese army attacked the American naval base Pearl Harbor in Honolulu , Hawaii. This attack was a major shock to the United States since the same tactic they used to be free from the British in the Revolutionary War was being used on them by the Japanese. From this battle, 2,403 Americans were killed and over 1,000 Americans are wounded. After 27 hours , America declares war on Japan. -

Pacific Battle of Iwo Jima
The island of Iwo Jima was essential to the United States for it was a base of bombers reaching Japan. 20,700 Japanese soldiers defended the island. The battle resulted in more than 6,000 marines dead and about 200 Japanese left alive. -
Pacific Battle of Okinawa
In April, 1945, the United States invaded Okinawa, Japan. Japan fought back with 1,900 kamikaze attacks on the Allies killing about 5,000 seamen. More than 7,600 Americans had died and Japan, 110,000 people.
