    The ramifications were huge. The Japanese invasion led to the US boycott of raw materials to Japan. This showed the warlords that the US was not a political wimp and that they would have to look elsewhere to get raw materials. Their eyes pointed to the south Pacific for oil and natural rubber. In order to take those possessions, they would have to knock out the US and British military power in the area. This led to the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Philippines, Hong Kong and Wake Island.

    Policy of appeasement was signed to keep peace, but 6 months after signing Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia. A couple months later Hitler invaded Poland. This event is significant because it was the first European invasion of the war.Germany signed the Munich Agreement promising not to invade Czechoslovakia. However 6 months later on March 15, 1939, Germany invaded. This proved that Hitler was not trustworthy. After this invasion Hitler invaded many other nations such as Denmark, Poland,etc.

    In ww1 Canada was basically forced to join the war because of their tie with Britain, however in ww2 they had a choice, and there was a vote and Canadian parliament decided that it was best if they joined. They decided to join on September 10 1939, which was a couple days after Germany invaded Poland.

    This battle was significant because soldiers from Winnipeg and Quebec fought in the same regiment and this proved that French and English speakers could fight together
  • Dieppe Raid

    Dieppe Raid was when Canada was planning to take over Dieppe at dawn, however on the way, they ran into German ships causing a batte at sea. The Germans on the beach heard the fighting and began preparing for attack. The Canadians arrived in daylight and the Germans were fully prepared for battle. This became one of the worst blood battles in Canadian history.

  • D-Day

    The allies were planning to take over the coast of France (Juno, Omaha, Utah, Sword & Gold beaches). This was successful because they knew what to do (based off of what happened at Dieppe Raid), and they had been planning every detail. The Germans didn’t find out any of the secret details which made it easier for the allies to attack. Canada was given Juno beach to take over which they successfully did.

  • Battle Of Rhineland

    Goal of this battle was to get Germans out of Holland, and the Rhine River. 175,000 Canadians involved in this battle, 23,000 allied soldiers killed (5300 Canadians).
    90,000 Germans lost in this battle. Canadians were able to liberate Holland, because Germany withdrew on March 10, 1945.

    His death had little or no effect in the long run. Some Nazi officials surrendered or killed themselves because of it, but the war was all ready lost and they would have surrendered within weeks anyways. If Hitler was captured alive, he would have surely been executed after the Nuremburg trials.

    VideoThis day is the mark of the end of WWII. It’s obviously a very important day to our history VE Day is the most significant because it was the day that the WW2 officially ended in Europe. VE Day was a day of celebration on May 8th 1945 all over Europe celebrating that there was finally peace and freedom. The war were 6 very devesting years all over the world, losing very many men and women who were serving their countries. This year VE Day is celebrated on Friday May 8.

    Hiroshima was not a military target. There was some minor defense industry there but it was on the edge of town and the bomb was targeted at city hall, in the center of population.

    Americans dropped bomb on Nagasaki, after dropping bomb on Hiroshima only a couple days earlier. 40,000 people killed by Nagasaki bomb.
