  • The start of the World War

    The start of the World War
    Germany had been giving threats of military attack and a hard time to Poland. After Germany's attack on Poland, the countries Britain, France quickly declared war on Germany. The reason this is an important event is because after Germany declared War on Poland, 2 major countries (Britain and France) responding in helping Poland and with this World War 2 officially began with many countries
  • Canada declares war on Germany

    Canada declares war on Germany
    Canada declared war on Germany a week after Britain. This is important to Canada because Canada had entered the war to protect the innocent and with Canada joining it could help Britain and France defeat Germany. Canada had purposely joined a week later to show the world, they didn’t' enter the war because of Britain but because of Germany's actions
  • France, Belgium and Holland are taken down

    France, Belgium and Holland are taken down
    Germany takes control of France, Belgium and Holland. This affects Canada because their allies are losing a lot of land. They lost more soldiers; they need a battle plan quickly which caused stress. The reason this event is important is because with taking over France, and the other countries Germany gained an upper hand in the war.

    Hitler launches his plan to take over Russia with his army; they attacked many places and caused chaos. Britain is still under attack by Germany, they attack many major cities and loot people's homes. This is important because Canada is losing its allies’ strength and Germany is winning over the strong holds of Britain.

    pearl harbor On the morning of December 7, 1941 there was a surprise attack on the U.S naval base at Pearl Harbor. Japan had attacked the naval bases, who were allies with Germany. Therefore U.S joined the war alongside Canada and Britain. Canada and Britain finally got some breathing room, and help to defend and fight off German forces. This is an important point because the U.S would help Canada and Britain fight against empowering German forces.

    Battle of Stalingrad ends
    The battle of Stalingrad’s was a major battle where the Allies and Germanys Nazi's fought for the control of the city of Stalingrad. This battle was one the bloodiest battles in the war with about 750,000 Germanys soldiers were killed alone. This battle was a turning point in the war because since Germany had lost a lot of men in the east, Germany had to withdraw a lot of their troops in the west and send them to the east to hold their ground, but even with this Germany never gained control.

    D - Day
    Rare footage of D-dayThe Allies had planned to attack the German forces that were in France. They would use the Normandy coast's to help Allied forces to gain some ground. Canada had landed on 1 of the 5 beaches giving Canadian troops a huge role against the German forces. Germany would eventually surrender to the Allies. This was really important to Canada because now the Allies had gotten an upper hand in the war.

    On April 29, 1945 Germany had surrender completely and declared defeat. With the defeat of the German forces, Hitler had committed suicide by firing a gun to his head. Canada, Britain and the U.S finally had defeated the German forces. This was important to Canada because with this the end of the war became closer than ever before.

    The World War come to an end
    atomic bombs After dropping two atom bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in early August, which defeated Japans largest army, Japan finally surrendered. On August 15, Japan gave the surrender documents and they were signed on September 2nd, 1945 declaring the end of the Second World War. Canada had helped defeat the Japanese forces by helping the U.S alongside the U.K in the development of the atomic bombs and with this it made Japan’s surrender inevitable.
