    What sparked WWII: Germany invades Poland
    On September 1st, 1939, Hitler ordered the Nazis to launch a Blitzkreig (lightning warfare or quick warfare) on Poland. Since Germany was well-prepared and Poland was not, the invasion quiclkly terminated Poland in only a few weeks. Poland didn't stand a chance against the Nazis' 2,000 tanks and several hundred airplanes. This is what started World War II.

     Battle of Britain
    The Nazis were orderd to fly over to The UK and bomb them into submission. They would bomb by day and night. London was starting to fall apart after all of these bombings.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    On December 7th, 1941, The Japanese gave a devastating attack on The American naval base in Hawaii called, Pearl Harbor. Japan destroyed hundreds of US naval ships and planes and thousands of soldiers. The day after the war, the president at the time, Franklin D. Roosevelt, declared war on Japan. America had joined World War II.

    Battle of Stalingrad
    Joseph Stalin ordered Russian troops to isolate German troops in the city at all costs. He wanted to take over German cities because of oil and it was very easy getting supplies from there into Russia. It was considered to be one of the bloodiest battles. It was also the first time the Germans had lost in the East.

    Germans Surrender at Stalingrad
    Even though Hitler said, "Surrender is out of the question. The troops will defend themselves to the last!" the germans had to surrender at Stalingrad. Most soldiers were very sick and the russians were moving in on them. After months of fighting, the germans were low on resources and fighting maerials. They had to surrender.

    July 10, 1943, Canadians sailors and airmen had gained a lot of battle expirence, but the Canadian Army, had not been involved in rarely any land operations. The need for battle experience led to Canada invading Sicily. This was to be the prelude to the invasion of mainland Europe.

    “We will accept nothing less than full victory.” said General D. Eisenhower as hundreds of thousands of troops were lining up a 50 mile stretch on the french coastline. The allied troops were about to fight Nazi Germany. 9,000 soldiers were killed or wounded, but most prevaled and defeated Hitler.

    The Battle of the Bulge was meant to be Hitler's last retaliation in the war. It was an unsucessfull attempt to push the Allies back from German home territory.

    Hitler's Suicide
    Hitler finds himself with little hope to beat Russia, so he shoots himself in the head. He had killed, raped and tortured many Russians in 1941-1942 so if they had found Hitler, he would have been tortured even worse.

    America dropped the biggest nuclear bomb the Earth has ever seen on August 6th 1945. There we two bombs, one was dropped on Hiroshima, and the other one was Nagasaki. The bombs were so big that even some 50 years later, people were still suffering from radiation. This pretty much ended World War II for America.
