    The Long March was a military retreat undertaken by the Red Army of the Communist Party of China, to evade the pursuit of the Kuomintang. The communists were under the control of Mao Zedong. The Long March began Mao Zedong's ascent to power, whose leadership during the retreat gained him the support of the members of the party.

    Germany invades Poland; France and Great Britain declare war on German
    Germany and the Soviet Union signed the non agression pact. This pact was an agreement that they would not invade each other, but it was also an agreement that neither country was allowed to invade Poland. Hitler was the one to break the pact, and sent the germans in quickly and powerfully. They invaded Germany in 1939 and witin an hour they have destroyed the the Polish Air Way System. From this day forward, the second world war was inevitable.
  • Japan attacks Pearl Harbor

    Japan attacks Pearl Harbor
    On the morning of December 7, 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. It was an assault across all the Pacific (Singapore, Philippines, Wake Island). President FDR stated "this will be a day that will live in infamy". During the attack, a ship with 700 boys was attacked and all of them died. In the end, this was a very tragic day where a lot of people died.
  • United Nations formed

     United Nations formed
    On January 1, 1942, representatives of 26 nations at war with the Axis powers met in Washington to sign the Declaration of the United Nations endorsing the Atlantic Charter, pledging to use their full resources against the Axis and agreeing not to make a separate peace.
  • Germany surrenders

    Germany surrenders
    In 1945, the German High Command, in the person of General Alfred Jodl, signs the unconditional surrender of all German forces, East and West, at Reims, in northwestern France. At first, General Jodl hoped to limit the terms of German surrender to only those forces still fighting the Western Allies. But General Dwight Eisenhower demanded complete surrender of all German forces, those fighting in the East as well as in the West
  • Allies use atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki

    Allies use atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
    An American B-29 bomber dropped the world’s first deployed atomic bomb over Hiroshima that wiped out 90 percent of the city. Three days later, a second B-29 dropped another A-bomb on Nagasaki, killing an estimated 40,000 people.
