    Australian soldiers spent 6 months pushing back a Japanese invasion force along the Kokoda Track in Paupa New Guinea. The Japanese objective was to take Port Moresby, where they planned to launch an invasion of Australia from. 625 Australians were killed and 1680 wounded.
