World War II Battles

  • The Battle of Britain

    The Battle of Britain

Before this battle happened, Britain was surprisingly held its own against Germany(with the secret help of the Americans), while every other European country had been conquered by the Axis powers. Hitler did not like this, and wanted to invade Britain. Germany began attacking Britain by sea and by air. Despite having fewer planes and supplies, Britain somehow won the battle. But not without cost. Britain was not safe from air attacks, which made Hitler start attacking cities and civilians.
  • Operation Barbarossa

    Operation Barbarossa

Operation Barbarossa was when Hitler broke the Germany-Soviet nonaggression pact and began to invade the Soviet Union. It was the largest land invasion in history. France and Poland fell quickly, and Hitler wanted to invade the Soviet Union before winter came. Initially, it worked. Until the winter came, the Soviet Union came with 25 million soldiers, and the supply lines were destroyed. Germany got a lot of things after this invasion, but the consequences were to much, and Germany retreated.
  • Operation Torch

    Operation Torch

In North Africa, the British began pushing the Germans back. The first victory of this operation was at El Alamein. The Americans also landed in French Morocco and were pushing the Germans east while the British pushed them to the west. Eventually, the Axis powers finally retreated and left Africa. This operation happened because the war was going on for too long, and the Allied powers finally figured out a way to beat the Axis powers by pushing them back to their original countries.
  • Operation Overlord

    Operation Overlord

Operation Overlord was the biggest amphibious invasion in history. It began when the Allied powers(and most of the other European countries) invaded Normandy in France. The invasion began with overnight parachute and glider landings, massive air attacks, and naval bombardments. The first day(D-Day) was successful, but the allies didn’t obtain their goals. Eventually, after a while, their goals were obtained and France was finally free from German control.
  • Yalta Conference

    Yalta Conference

The Yalta conference was a conference between the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union, represented by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and Premier Joseph Stalin, respectively, to discuss Europe’s post-war reorganization. The conference was intended mainly to discuss how to fix every consequence that happened during the war(like debt and losing supplies). This meeting was very controversial, and still is to this day.
