  • Battle of Dunkirk

    The Dunkirk evacuation, codenamed Operation Dynamo and also known as Dunkirk, was the evacuation of more than 338,000 Allied soldiers during World War II from the beaches and harbour of Dunkirk, in the north of France, between 26 May and 4 June 1940.It is estimated that around 22,000 allied troops were killed in the Battle of Dunkirk and around 2,000 civilians lost their lives. The German military suffered around 20,000 casualties either wounded, killed or missing.
  • Battle of Moscow

    Battle fought between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union from September 30, 1941 to January 7, 1942. It was the climax of Nazi Germany’s Operation Barbarossa, and it ended the Germans’ intention to capture Moscow, which ultimately doomed the Third Reich. In germany their leader was Adolf hitler and in the soviet union was Stalin. German losses were about 250,000–400,000 and the Red Army suffered 600,000–1,300,000 dead, wounded, or captured.
  • Battle of Pearl Harbor

    On the morning of December 7, 1941, Japan attacked the US naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The surprise attack by some 350 Japanese aircraft sunk or badly damaged eighteen US naval vessels, including eight battleships, destroyed or damaged 300 US aircraft, and killed 2,403 men. Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto conceived the Pearl Harbor attack and Captain Minoru Genda planned it.
  • Battle Midway

    June 4, four Japanese aircraft carriers attacked and severely damaged the US base on Midway. The US carrier forces were just to the east of the island and ready for battle. After their initial attacks, the Japanese aircraft headed back to their carriers to rearm and refuel. While the aircraft were returning, the Japanese navy became aware of the presence of US naval forces in the area. The Japanese lost approximately 3,057 men, and the United States lost approximately 362 men.
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    was a major battle on the Eastern Front of World War II where Nazi Germany and its allies unsuccessfully fought the Soviet Union for control of the city of Stalingrad in Southern Russia. The Battle of Stalingrad was won by the Soviet Union. During the Axis casualties during the Battle of Stalingrad are estimated to have been around 800,000, including those missing or captured. Soviet forces are estimated to have suffered 1,100,000 casualties, and approximately 40,000 civilians died.

    In an attempt to recover the offensive on the eastern front, the germans planned a surprise attack on the salient from both, north and south, hoping to destroy the soviet forces with the bulge. Marshal Georgiy Zhukov was the major commander with 800,000 Soviet casualties and 200,000 German casualties.
  • Battle Normandy

    On June 6, 1944, the long-awaited Allied landing in northern France began. Facing Hitler's Atlantic Wall, soldiers of the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and other Allied nations landed on beaches in Normandy, beginning a campaign which lasted until July 24, 1944.73,000 Allied forces were killed and 153,000 wounded and especially Allied bombings of French villages and cities killed around 20,000 French civilian.
  • Battle of Bulge

    The Battle of the Bulge started on December 16, 1944, when German forces launched a surprise attack on Allied forces in the forested Ardennes region in Belgium, Luxembourg, and France. The battle lasted until January 16, 1945, after the Allied counteroffensive forced German troops to withdraw. The U.S. Army lost approximately 19,000 men.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    The battle was between the United States and Japan. U.S. Marines invaded Iwo Jima on February 19, 1945, after months of naval and air bombardment. The Japanese defenders of the island were dug into bunkers deep within the volcanic rocks. The ensuing Battle of Iwo Jima lasted for five weeks. In some of the bloodiest fighting of World War II, it’s believed that all but 200 or so of the 21,000 Japanese forces on the island were killed, as were almost 7,000 Marines.
  • Battle of Berlin

    This one was one of the last ones of world war II, and ended with the fall of Berlin to the Soviet Red Army. The Soviet Union assembled one of the largest concentrations of military power ever seen. On Soviet army their major leader was Georgy Zhukov, under him, Vasily Chuikov and Ivan Konev, German side was Adolf Hitler. The Soviet military was left with 80,000 dead or missing soldiers. German deaths were between 92,000-100,000.
