    The lighting war - or Blitskrieg - was the intial point when Germany invaded Poland. Due to Germany's rebelion of the Treaty of Versailles, Britain and France declared war on Germany. This effected people all over Europe. There were thousands of casualties from Polish, German, and Soviet descent. There was new technology and new ways of fighting introduced via this event.     More infoThe Battle of Britain brought an end to the "Phony War". The Luftwaffe began the Battle of Britain. The Germans bombed many British cities for many months. Some of the cities bombed were: London, Liverpool, Hull, Coventry, and Plymouth. Many civilians were killed. Hitler's goal was to break down the British Empire through advanced technology, but the British people stayed strong through this attack.

He had excepted an easy vistory, but he was wrong! Mussolini then turned to Hitler for help. Hitler then forced Bulgaria, Hungary, and Romania to join the Axis. In April 1941 the Axis overran Yugoslavia and Greece. This was a very important event in the war because it developed the Axis and made them stronger. This also allowed Hitler to complete his Mediterranean campaign.

    Japan intiated a suprise attack on Pearl Harbor in order to prevent the US from interfering with Japans invasion plans. This bombing was extremely unexpected. At this point in the war not the Americans were not very involved. Around 3700 americans were killed. This event caused the US to get involved in the war, and caused feelings of vengence and revenge.

The RAF was successsful, and the once very strong German airforce was destroyed, This allowed the Allies to become stronger,

    More information on StalingradThe Germans planned to capture the Crimea, the Caucaus oil fields, and Stalingrad. The Germans moved in towards Moscow. They overtaxed their strength and they did not have enough troops. The Germans were surrounded by the Soviets, but Hitler ordered for them to fight to the last man. The Germans fought but when it came down to 140 000 German soilders left they surrendered. This was the first major loss for the Axis and gave the Allies the lead.

    The British, Americans, and Canadians attacked Germany on Normandy Beach. The Allies went in to free France from Nazi Germany. 12 000 Allies were lost, and 9000 Axis. The Allies caught the Germans off guard with their determination, good armour, tanks, and allied air force, and were successful in freeing France. This was another event that weaken the Axis helped the Allies on their path to victory.

    More information on the Atomic BombingsAfter Japan refused to surrender, the US dropped two atomic bombs. One on the city of Hiroshima , and one on the city of Nagasaki. Maybe Japanese citizens died. 135 000 in Hiroshima and 64 000 in Nagasaki. This was the American's revenge for the bombing of Pearl Harbour. The Atomic bombs used were a very new technology, never used before. This led to Japan's surrender, and ultimately led to the end of World War II, the Allies victory.
