    In 1937 the SS gained more control over concentration camps. They were able to expand their power and create more concentration camps to kill larger masses of people. They built labor camps, death camps and concentration camps.

    Japan invaded China and started WWII in the Pacific. Japan invaded China simply for their resources like oil, iron and coal. This was because Japan was in need of these things for their economy and military needs.

    In 1938 Hitler signed a secret order to selectively kill all children under the age of 5 who showed signs of mental or physical disabilities. Unfortunately it was so successful that it expanded to teens and adults. The purpose of this program was to ‘cleanse’ the German race so make a productive society. It was estimated that over 200,000 people died because of this.

    Germany invaded Poland and WWII started in Europe. They invaded by land and air, and made sure to destroy everything in their way. They began to collect all undesirables and that was how WWII had begun in Europe.

    The Tuskegee Airmen were the first, all black, WWII Fighter Pilots. Many people didn’t agree with this and didn’t believe that they were able to fly a plane no less be able to protect a bomber plane on a mission. But the group ended up surprising everyone when they never failed one mission and they were the only group of fighter pilots to ever get a perfect record.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    Just before 8 a.m, Japanese fighter planes attacked America’s Naval base located on Pearl Harbor. In only 2 hours the Japanese were able to completely destroy nearly 20 naval vessels, including 8 enormous battleships and 300 planes. More than 2,000 soldiers died in the attack and more than 1,000 were wounded.

    In response to Japan's surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, FDR wanted to fight back and give citizens a peace of mind. After an hour of FDR giving his Infamy Speech the declaration was quickly brought a vote and the declaration was given.

    This was a secret plan to develop and Atomic bomb. The united States wanted to this because it would save lives, and show Russia and other countries the power of America’s military. They also wanted to test it out since it costs billions of dollars to make.

    A high ranking Nazi party got together to discuss what they called the ¨Final Solution,¨ which was really their plan to eliminate Jews. This was where they basically planned the entire mass murder of thousands of Jews and undesirables.

    This was when America was able to get Victory overseas in war and at home against discrimination. It was a victory for all american citizens especially African Americans.
  • Executive Order 9066

    Executive Order 9066
    After the attack many people were afraid of anyone with Japanese ancestry. FDR came up with what he thought would be a good solution to this problem and signed the Executive Order 9066. Which states that all Japanese people would be interned. Camps were made to just simply keep all American Japanese citizens and others of Japanese ancestry away from other Americans. Camps were located in deserts, without running water, and they were dirty. All of the families lost most of their belongings.

    The US was in great need of a new strategy, a new code that the Japanese would never be able to break. The Navajo language was an unwritten language and almost impossible to learn if not grown up in it, so this was when the marines made the decision to use Navajo code talkers since their tribe was one of the only ones that was occupied by german or japanese people. Over 400 natives joined the marines and created/learned the unbreakable that saved thousands of lives.

    At this time Hitler attempted to invade and take over Russia for their space and resources. He wanted to kill as many Russians as possible, More than 20,000 Russians died. They ended losing due to the harsh Russian weather and they were unsupplied and unprepared. Civilians were willing to fight and all of this caused german troops to fail and this was the point that made Germany lose WWII.

    All of the people who were placed in the ghetto formed an armed rebellion against German troops. It took a few days before it was controlled but the strong force surprised the german troops.

    In the years 1933-1941 America allowed only 100,000 refugees into the US. A few years later FDR made the War Refugee Board which allowed more than 200,000 Jewish refugees in just the matter of months.

    Korematsu refused to leave his home when he was ordered to go into an internment camp, and he went to the Supreme Court with his case.He argued that this was violated his rights and segregated japanese race which was unconstitutional, and he was right, but he ended up losing the case. Eventually this case was overturned due the rage of many americans and because it was unconstitutional.

    The Germans tried take Antwerp, a Belgian city. They successfully misled the Americans and when the battle broke out it was chaotic. The Americans ended up winning or at least attempting to but with the cost of over 81,000 lives lost.
  • Auschwitz Liberation

    Auschwitz Liberation
    Auschwitz was the largest camps established by the germans. Thousands were killed in this camp, and 60,000 were forced to march west of the camps by the SS. Prisoners were forced to march and were killed if refused or could no longer go on. 15,000 people died because of these death marches due to torture, bad weather, starvation and disease.

    This was a meeting between Winston Churchill, FDR, Stalin as WWII was coming closer to an end. This was where the allied leaders agreed to split germany into 4 zones in which they would all share as well as France.

    Iwo Jima is a small island off of Japan.Americans wanted to secure the land for an extra Naval base, but t=by the time they were able to take it over 200,000 japanese soldiers died and 7000 americans also died. it was one of the worst and most bloodiest battles of all of WWII.

    This as a large scale battle. Even more people died in this battle than in Iwo Jima, 200,000 Japanese soldiers died and 19,000 American soldiers died.
  • V-E Day in Europe

    This was after German Nazis had lost in Russia, the day in which Germany surrendered and There was victory in Europe. Everyone celebrated because it finally the end of WWII in Europe.

    This was where and when America dropped the Atomic bomb, “Little Boy.” This bomb instantly killed 80,000 people, 60,000 died within a year, and 60,000 died through the years.

    This was the second Atomic bomb that the US dropped, it was called “Fat Boy” because it was a lot bigger than the previous one. 60-80 thousand people died within a few months.
