    Fascism and Nazism were very much alive in Germany and Italy during the 1920s. Fascism is the belief in authoritarian government and nazism is believing in the nazi party's political beliefs. These beliefs and feeling ultimately kindled the start of the war.

    Passed by FDR to avoid any action that would involve the U.S. in war. Citezens were forbidden to come in contact with any belligerent ship. No one was allowed to transport goods to anywhere even close to the waring countries.

    Hitler marched into the uncooperative Austria and declared it to be of the nazi government. This is significant because it shows how Hitler had the power to just take over entire countries.

    The economy was horrible during thr Great Depression but the war created the need for jobs. Men and women helped withy he production of weapons first for their allies, but then for the United States when they joined the war.

    Lend Lease Act
    This act provided the means for providing Us military aid to foreign nations. Transferred supplies to allies such as Britain to support war interests. Roosevelt compared the action to lending a garden hose to a neighbor whose house is on fire. By supplying our allies, the war would come to a quick end and not spread to America.
  • Bombing of Pearl Harbor

    Bombing of Pearl Harbor
    This surprise bombing was done by the Japanese to the American naval base in Hawaii. This ultimately led to the United States' involvement in the war. None of the soldiers present saw the attack coming and were ultimately unprepared for it. The attack killed many people and destroyed their naval and plane defenses.

    Battle of Stalingrad
    Nazi Germany and its allies fought against the Soviet Union for control of Stalingard in the Southwest Soviet Union. The soviet uniton was successful in their defense. It stopped the German advance and turned the tides in favor of the allies.

    Eisenhower took command of US forces in Europe and planned to, with the help of the allies, take over the channel in between Tunisia and Egypt that was in German control.

    Liberation of Madjdanek
    Soviet forces liberated Madjanek extermination camp. It was originally for Soviet prisoners of war but also held many Jews from Europe. 360,000 victims died or were murdered there.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    Battle of Iwo Jima
    Battle in which Us defeated Japan which allowed the U.S. and it's allies to move into an offense position. Iwo Jima is actually a volcanic island in Japan. Both sides ended with hapeavy loses.
  • Battle of Okinawa

    Battle of Okinawa
    Allied forces invaded Okinawa and fought the Japanese. This was the last and biggest pacific island battle in WW2. It involved 287,000 Us troops and 130,000 Japanese soldiers. The Allies ended up capturing Okinawa.
  • V-E Day

    V-E Day
    Victory in Europe day marked formal acceptance of Germany's surrender to the Allies. The war in Europe finally came to an end. Sadly president Roosevelt didn't live to see this day.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    First day that the Allies invaded Normandy France to free France from nazi invasion. During this time a platoon of American infaltry invaded Omaha beach in Normandy. The allies suffered great casualties but got through the enemy lines.
  • Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

    Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
    An atomic bomb was developed by the OSRD. It came to be known as the Manhattan Project. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasami was an American atomic bombing over parts of Japan that wiped out 90% of the city. Used unfortuneatly to attain a quick end to the war against Japan.
  • V-J Day

    V-J Day
    News of Japan's surrender was announced to the World. It had been 6 years at war which finally ended. King George VI and Harry Truman both experienced this moment.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    Battle of the Bulge
    Part of the German offensive campaign though Belgium, France, Luxembourg. After America captured the German city Aachen, Hitler ordered his troops to recapture it. This caused a bulge in the allies lines when the German tanks drove back. The battle lasted for a month. German troops lost valuable tanks and troops they couldn't afford to replace after this battle.
