The Beginning of World War II
German forces finally attack Poland along with the Soviets after weeks of threats and bullying. Britain and France declared war on Germany with Canada soon following. This was a very significant event because it began World War II. -
Germany Controls of all Europe
Germany, Italy, and Russia control all of Europe with the use of "panzers" (tanks). Britain is left to fight alone with the support of its ominions and colonies including Canada. This is event was important due to the fact that the Germans were winning and Britain was the only European country left standing to defend. -
Soviet Union Joins Britains Side
Germany breaks the secret treaty between them and the Soviet Union. Canada was Britain's principal remaining ally until the Soviet Union joined along side them. This is important because the Soviet Union would become a great ally further along the war. -
Dieppe Raid
On the French port of Dieppe, 5000 Canadians made a disatrous raid due to bad orders. 1000 men were killed and 2000 were taken prisoner. However this battle was very significant because people learned from their mistakes from this battle and used the knowledge to avoid further mistakes. -
Invading Sicily
The first invasion of Axis-held Europe, allies U.S., Britain, and Canada invaded Sicily, Italien mainland. This was significant because Italy soon surrendered and was liberated. -
D-Day
An invasion of German occupied Europe, allied forces of U.S, Britain, and Canada landed on the coast of Normandy, France. This was important because it was a turning point to the liberation of Europe. -
The European End to World War II
At this time, the Soviet Union free the Jews from the death camps. As the Soviets enter Berlin, Hitler commits suicide and soon the war in Europe ends. Canadian soldiers are freed from prison in Europe. The signifane of this is the war is soon at end and all the European countries are freed from the Nazis. -
The Official Ending to World War II
The U.S. drop atomic bombs on the Japanese cities; Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Canadians had no part in creating the atomic bombs with the possibility in providing them with uranium. A few days later Japan surrenders and World War II is officially over. The importance of this is that the war is finally at end everywhere.
