It happened entirely over sea in the Atlantic Ocean, North Sea, Irish Sea, Labrador Sea, Gulf of St. Lawrence, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, and the Arctic Ocean. Germany was defeated in 1945 by Britain and their allies. The German blockade had failed but had still been costly to the allies.

    This was a new method of warfare. The tactic was developed by German army officer Hans Guderian. Germany's plan was to defeat its enemies in a series of short campaigns. Germany quickly overran much of Europe and was victorious for more than two years by relying on a new military tactic called the "Blitzkrieg"

    More than 300,000 troops were evacuated from Dunkirk and the beaches around. At the time the British Prime Minister Winston Churchill said it was "a miracle of deliverance". Hundreds of thousands of troops were rescued. The troops were desperately needed back on the home shores to help defend against a Nazi invasion.They were rescued from the harbor and beaches near Dunkirk by a curious assembly of many different types of craft. Many of the little ships, such as motor yachts, fishing boats etc.

    The war was mainly a battle between Britain and Germany, in air. Germany’s objective was to destroy Britain’s Air Force and rule the Royal Air Force (RAF). The focus was to destroy aircraft factories and ground infrastructure. Britain had managed to prevent Germany from gaining air superiority in the end though. The Battle of Britain was considered to be the first major defeat for Germany as they
    couldn’t destroy Britain’s air defences, or force Britain to negotiate nor surrender.

    This battle took place on a 600 km range on the Eastern front in Moscow. Both sides had been planning strategically but the Soviet Union had better plans than the Germans. The Germans had 3 armies which were nearly surrounded in the process. Although Germany had many more men to send into battle, Soviet Unions plan to have 3 defensive belts, deploying newly raised reserve armies and having troops come in from the Siberian and Far Eastern Military Districts, lead them to victory.

    A major battle between Germany and its allies with Soviet Union, to take control over the city Stalingrad in Southern Russia. It was considered to be the most strategic battle in the war as Germany faced many losses but it was also considered to be the bloodiest battle in the history of warfare. After this Battle, Germany had to withdraw forces from the West since East had faced so many losses. Some of the army had to surrender as they eventually ran out of supplies like ammunition and food.
